Thankfully you are OK.

How did the Klim hold up?
Not bad it didn't tear through anywhere saved me for sure. I'll throw up some pics tomorrow.

Owners like this should be banned from getting another. Poor dog.

If the dog was loose, they were bad owners and this was no "accident". I have two dogs, both hunting breeds and very intelligent. One of them is a Weimaraner, known for being escape artists. When they are not inside the house, neither of them leave my site, not even in my own back yard. The OP quite possibly could have been killed...do you honestly think a ticket would be overkill? Very happy to hear he made it out with barely a scrape.

Glad you were able to walk away from the crash in one piece.......sad for the dog but like the guy in Holland with the cat that was hit, maybe the owners will "honor" the dog similarly and create a "Lab-Copter"

Get off the brakes before impact.

I always wondered whether that was an rural myth (like an urban myth, but with fewer witnesses ) but I collected a kangaroo a month or so back and while I wasn't going insanely fast I aimed for where I wanted to be after the impact, braked like hell until the last possible moment and got on the throttle at the last instant.

The result was a soft impact, a launch into the air, an ugly landing but no crash, a dead kangaroo and an undamaged bike.

The bike did have blood and hair all over it, but that all washed off.

Probably would pay to brake all the way for a child though, I doubt folks would be at all understanding about throttling up in those circumstances....

This is the Klim latitude jacket that i had on. no complete punctures or rips and it mitigated any bruising to my torso. I just wish I had on my matching pants at the time. That would have saved me a week's bum hip.

Here is the sprint I just picked up yesterday to replace the Tiger. Not so ADV but it will do. A yz is in the works for dirt work.

I never thought of FroggToggs as crash protection, but from the picture they seem to have actually helped some. Still, I'll continue to wear mine over my regular overpants!

They actually are amazing. I am wearing the jeans I had on that day today. Other than a small run on the knee of the jeans the frog togs took all the damage that would have gone to my jeans. Also they didn't melt like I thought they might. They abraded (SP?) off into the pavement.

Damn!

Glad you walk away from that one.

I've seen those street dogs in Mexico run out in front of
use when entering towns. Not at 55 though....

Saw you post on my thread. Bummer about the whole thing. I'm sure you feel horrible about the dog. But glad you are OK. Lets hope for no more MI gremlins this year!

Many years ago I was heading home late at night on a rural two lane at about 50 MPH when a string of of about six dogs crossed the road in front of me. I knew I was going to hit something so aimed for where I thought a space might be when I got there, figuring if I was lucky I'd only clip the rear of one dog or the front of another. Lifted my feet off the pegs and tried not to tense up, and it turned out to be the latter, my left peg and shifter hitting the poor thing. Probably killed him judging from the POP sound at impact and I did not stop to find out. I've since become a dog owner and try to keep mine under control at all times. Way too easy for bad stuff to happen when they're loose.

The owners should have been ticketed.

Way back in 1970 I was heading out from home on my new Honda CB-350 with crash bars.
As I drove down this one local city street at about 30 mph or so, a big Collie dog,
that looked like the Lassie from hell, came charging out from between two parked
cars with his fangs showing and snarling, intent on taking me out.
I swerved and missed him.
A little while later as I came back up the same street, he was waiting for me again.
He came charging out from between the cars again with that big mouth open,
heading straight for the front wheel of my bike. He was just a half a second too
slow however. Somehow the crash bars missed his head and the front of my
right shin caught him in the left side of that open mouth. He did an instant
snap roll. I remember seeing his feet go by about head high.
He came down back on his feet more or less and headed into the backyard
of the house he came from as fast as he could run, letting out a
howl that would wake the dead!!!
He left the imprint of the open side of his jaw on the front of my shin
and it hurt like hell for a week!
....but I'll bet he never chased another motorcycle!
(don't know what he thought he was going to do with it
if he caught it)
I also don't know how he missed the crash bars. It probably would
have killed him if he had been hit in the side of the head
by them instead of my shin.
