Well........I am happy to spend my money for it. Some people probably think the price is over the top, I guess BMW will still sell them all. Yes, I know my riding ability can't do the HP 2 justice! All the same, it will be fun anyway.

For what it's worth - I love it and think it's awsome ! If I had the money I'd buy one.......and they'll probably cost around A$ 50.000,- over here. (The 1150adv was A$46.000,- when it came and the 1200 is about A$44.000,- now)

When I was last in Norway in 1994 a single glass of bear cost me $10 Kiwi. At the Olympic village it was dry. There was free coke but no JD to go with the coke. I had to hide my JD bottle in my room. I did like apple cake though. The cook at the Olympic village would bake it for me.

I spent heaps of money ($15500) in 1987 to buy a new Harley and it probably added 10 years to my life riding home and de-stressing me everyday after being nice to assholes AKA airline passengers while working for QF. Enjoy your new bike

Mate I reckon it'll get better witht e HP2 just as long as they dont; think it's some kinda computer.

I spoke with a guy in Nowra last noght who is selling his GSA and has put the deposit down for the HP2.

I say go for it if you can. Wyn Percy won Le Mans, and plenty of other big races - not a scracth - out clipping the roses one day and fell off the ladder - now chair bound. Life's just too short

And don;t ever give up riding for gardening

Have you guys who have spent your hard earned on a HP2 looked at the Specs?

Fuel Capacity alone tells me to stay away. 13litres
Suspension - My R100 G/S Special runs WP USD 46mm forks - Why not a 48mm or a 50mm. I suppose the 45mm front ends will be an improvement from the shit front ends the oil head GS's currently have.

I spoke with Pro Cycles in November ref a new 1200 Adventure. This was supposed to be that. I hope they haven't dropped that for the HP2.

It is a joke as an adventure bike. What are BMW thinking? I would have put $25K down for an adventure model of the HP2, something with a 30litre fuel capacity, 600km plus range.

I agree with Trevor S

For those sort of dollars, if you wanted an "exotic" off road Rallye bike, get a KTM 660 Rallye..
A capable off road machine, not a Toorak Tractor which is exactly what I believe the HP2 will be.

I am sure of one thing, I will never see one off road where I ride. They couldn't get there, and get home, it is further than 150km.

Well I dont know if it is a great bike or not - as for me I love my 1150 Adventure - but the rear suspension, from the article anyway - sounds kickass - maybe it will find its way to the none HP BMW's. Keeping that rear wheel on the ground under undulating scenarios woudl be a great asset.

One more thing:

Did I read the article right - but it sounds like it is going to be imposible to put a full set of panniers on - du th the short muffler and no heat shield. An adventure bike with no luggage?????/

Might be a great bike, but for the price, ineffective fuel range, and no panniers, its not for me as I want to tour etc.
I will however trade in / sell my 1200gs the moment the 1200 adventure arrives.

Hp2

If you've not seen the link on BMW Motorrad to the HP2 site then methinks some of you may have judged a little hastily!!
After seeing the movies and pics it seems clear that it is not a touring/long distance machine. It is a 105hp enduro bike.
To the blokes in this thread who pony'd up the cash... more power to you!!! If you wanna do distance adventure rides then get a rear pod tank like on the R900RR Paris Dakar machine and travel light!! It had (has) a 22ltr main with a 10ltr pod at the rear opposite the pipe, see the Nomad Tanks ad in Sidetrack. And a small screen, Acerbis has some good stuff.
And if cruising the cafe strip is your thing you could do a lot worse than wacking a set of motard rims and really having a play!!!
I spoke to a chap from BMW OZ and he said, "The 1150 Adventure will be in the line up for the next couple of years as the HP project (including the new R1200S... can't wait for that!!) is their focus at present. The Adventure won't be changed much, if at all because it works so well."
Like a couple of you, I also have an GS Adventure and while it has some niggles I am slowly sorting it out. Personally I think the HP project is fantastic for BMW and for the few of us who can afford one, as for me.. I would LOVE a HP2 but the bank and the Minister for War and Finance both disagree with me, oh well...
Anyhoo, stepping out for a blat down the coast, enjoying the sun and riding a bike. Any bike, doesn't matter 'cause we're in this together!!!
ENJOY!!!
Chookas
P.S. A REAL KTM640 Rallye (for $27,000 or under..... Complianced? I love to know where you'd get that!!!)
