That rear tank looks awesome! Except that my exhaust is on the rhs

Still, well done! I may have to pick up one of those skid plates for some much needed protection. How well does it cover the petcock?

Thank for that. If your sub frame is the same as the 05 I can make one to fit the LHS if your keen.

As for the bash plate they fit the 02 so that all good and the protection is second to none

I think you would be unlucky to hit the petcock.

Cheers Matt

KTM 640 Rally Bash Plate

I thought I would also post in this forum as there are probably more of them in use in OZ than most other places...........

I just installed a rally skidplate from KTMatt on my KTM 640..........
..........http://www.advrider.com/forums/showt...ghlight=ktmatt

What a well made piece of gear.

My question is.........what do you guys put in the side pods?? The only concern I have is that I could be in wet/muddy conditions, so the stuff in the pods might get wet???

Thanks

A bit of custom work.

A little bit of custom tank and bash plate work of the mighty TransAlp.

The Bash plate is made out of 5mm 5083 and the tanks 3mm 5005 Alloy with as many bends as possible to eliminate as much welding as possible.
I think the RHS ended up with 11L and the RHS about 10L.
The tanks where made to fit in with the new custom twin pipes and the bash plate protects the pipe that crosses over under the bike.

Cheers Matt

go for it

I have this bash plate on my KTM 690 R. No regrets. Solid, neat and functional. Bit expensive but really in a class of it's own. If you have travel in mind, this is the one!! Hell you could probably race with it too!! KTMatt is open to ideas to customize for your needs or wants.

G'day Kernel,

You don't buy them like this unfortunately. I've spent about 6 years building this to suit. I'll briefly break it down like this:

- Original frame, wiring, fuel tank and air box is the original '88 model bike I've had since 2003. It has about 152K kms on it;
- The front suspension is '98 XR600;
- The rear shock is '91 XR250;
- The engine is a '03 XL650V TransAlp;
- The Fairing is Boano;
- Exhaust system is both Arrow & Dennis Foran custom system;
- Rear Tanks by Matt.

I don't wish to high jack Matt's thread, so if you want to see / read more, check out the oz-hondavtwinners page in the Australian section, or a bit more detail in the Beasts section - "Show us Your TransAlp modifications"

Without pissing in any ones pocket, Matt is very easy to work with. He made a couple of mounting brackets that you cannot see in this pic. This tank shape is similar to that Matt makes for the KTM 640A's.
Make no bones about it, the tanks require plenty of time / labour and are not cheap. But, if you're after a top product, then Matt is hard to go past.

Cheers,

Dan.

I bought one for my 990 in '09 & couldn't be happier with it.

Built like a tank, OldDog has the 990 now & it still looks as good as the day I put it on.

Now if Matt ever make one for a tiger 800.........................

Cheers Matt
