Victoria toll roads info

Hey Inmates

Traveling to Victoria from Tasmania shortly on the bike and currently trying to work out what to do about the toll roads. (hard to work out from website).

The first trip will be from Station pier to Geelong, the other toll area will be from Halls Gap back to Station Pier.

Whats the best way to go about it? Can you get a temp pass or should I try and map a route that avoids these?

Cheers

Moose

You can get a 30 day pass for about $5 , http://www.citylink.com.au/1798.asp

Do bikes need on though? I thought they only read front plates?

Hi Steamy,

No tolls charged on bikes on either of them roads.

Happy riding.

Tolls are only charged on eastlink.

Yup, I'll confirm that one.

+1 to confirm only eastlink charge for bikes and they also charge extra for interstate plate look up if you 'forget' to pay the toll.

Just re read your post
I don't think that you will go near any toll rds on your suggested route .
From the Spirit head to the Westgate and then follow the signs to geelong. No toll rd
Same comming back halls gap ballarat ? Follow hwy to the city over the westgate bridge follow the spirit sign easy no toll rds.
I travel regularly Ballarat to city no tolls.

Thanks for the info!

Thanks for all the replies!

I rang City and East link today. Only East charges for bikes, but i won't be going near any of the East roads.

Might travel on the M2 on the way back in to the boat, but is free for bikes as mentioned above :)

Thanks for all the info in relation to this

Both of those trips will avoid tolled roads anyways: Station pier is basically straight onto the Westgate bridge and Geelong freeway. Back is Western Highway/Freeway, Metro Ring rd, then back over the Westgate Bridge.

If you've got time, a far more fun trip (depending on good old Vic weather!) is to head east down the Mornington peninsula, take the Searoad ferry from Sorrento to Queenscliff, then around the Bellarine peninsula to Geelong or the GOR. Plenty of crossings per day, costs around thirty bucks for a bike IIRC.
