Manali to leh, India.

I might come back later and put some comments to the pictures, but for now I'll let the pictures speak for themselves on this amazing ride.

I guided these folks over the passes into Leh, where they carried on to Kashmire and I headed back to Manali alone. They did really good considering the guy was 69 and his wife in her late 50's. Just shows it's never too late.

Couldn't have said it better myself.

Always delays with landslides or stuck vehicles on Rohtang La

timed this crossing just right, with the snow drifts still visible but passable.

Climbing over Kardong La

Bikes are chugging along, gasping for air. 2nd gear all the way from here.

Riding out, after a freezing overnight camp by the lake.

Tata's have a habit of falling over. Usually due to drunk drivers, but also poor road conditions.

Traffic jambs are never a problem on Royal Enfields!

When the lorry drivers break down they often pull across the road. This accomplishes two things. firstly it stops over overly zealous Indian drivers trying to squeeze past and ended up sending both trucks off the side of the mountain. And secondly it accumulates plenty of help and advice!

ok more a bit later.

Heading up over Chang La at 17,500ft strangely no one else was doing this.

The beautiful and ever changing colours of Pangong Lake at 14,274ft

Coming back over Chang La. Feels like you really are on top of the world.

Coming over Baralacha La at 16,000ft. How these road laborers work and live! at this elevation and for a $1 a day is amazing if not a little saddening. They mostly come from Nepal and think they are lucky for the work.

Um yesterday! lol well I started out 2 weeks ago, slight delay getting home to Vashisht from a landslide on Rohtang.

I know you rode it last year? So you know the terrain and distances. I was really proud that I took off from Leh at 7.00am and reached Keylong in one day taking 10 hours! Even the locals were stunned. The next 3 days I was stuck at Rohtang from a landslide. :(

Thats ok I had that experience on the way up to Leh. There was a guy in another group, they had all been drinking in Keylong and again in Sarchu. In the morning 2 people were carrying him out of his tent and loading him in the jeep for a nice ride straight to the hospital in Leh. He ended up being in there for 4 days! Altitude and booze do not mix!

give it 4 years and they will have the 12km tunnel built! I think that might be like dog years, so multiply by 3

Sorry, yeah I deleted a photo account that had all the pics from all my trips. Slowing putting them back up again on another server. Will see what I can do here to repair this one, although now its been so long I forget what pics went where.
