I dunno Dave, I really don't like the buggers so it bugs me that I see so many of them. The little brown at the caravan park was slithering round within metres of a little tacker playing in the grass so I borrowed a broom from an old english bloke and took a swipe at it. On the first attempt I just winded it and before I could finish him off the cranky little bugger sprung up in the air at me. Using a bit of cricket technique from my younger days (and a lot of luck I can tell you) I straight drove it into a wall and that was the end of the snake. By this stage I had attracted a bit of a crowd, (thankfully none of them were greenies ) so I politely handed the broom back and made my way to the beach. I am sure that the old fella was impressed with my batting skills though .

I will qualify this by saying that it was only a little snake and that only reason I went anywhere near it was beacause of the toddler in close proximity. Any other time and I would be leaving it to it's own devices while a made a hasty retreat.

Cheers,

Danny

Thanks. I have been on best behaviour this year to accomodate Condo and the trip west but next year I am hoping to get back to regular adventures in my own back yard.

Cheers,

Danny

Ah yes, cash can be a problem when adventure dreaming hey!

There is plenty to see in Oz though and I am sure it's wide open spaces would be a nice contrast to Europe. Let me know if you ever make the trip and we'll go for a ride somewhere.

Cheers,

Danny

Last Saturday was was spent negotiating the hills east of Armidale with a bunch of very keen riders from Queensland. Rod had organised a brilliant loop but was thwarted when the heavens opened on Friday afternoon and washed half of it away. The abbreviated ride was certainly an adventure though and the track along the ridge after lunch was a beauty. Unfortunately I don't have any photo's as the torrential rain convinced me to leave the camera behind in the ute. It may have been a wise move too, as a I took a trip over the bars on the return leg which probalby would have bought about it's demise.

With rising flood waters in our absence, we bolted for home on Saturday afternoon but got stuck in Grafton. Roads were still closed on Sunday morning, so we figured there was only one way to pass the time.

Jonas Zolinski Statue, unfortunately it now lies on the wrong side of one of these, so unless you know it is there and walk to it, few people will get to see it.

Some wet trails led to the beach where the flush of fresh water was clearly evident.

On the way out we tried a shortcut but were beaten by a deep crossing and had had to back track along a very impressive trail that followed a narrow ridge parallel to the ocean. This was the shallow part preceeding the river.

Time to ressurect this thread with some photo's from the last nine months. I have been pretty busy lately with business commitments and a growing family but there has been the odd opportunity to get out.

First batch is from a pre-dawn trail ride with the Dalby Crew, squeezed in between work commitments.

In case you are wondering, none of these are me. I quietly sat back with the camera trying to block out thoughts of concrete cattle troughs on overgrown cattle tracks (best not to elobaorate on that one )

Somewhere along the line, despite doing less riding and more work, I determined that I was too fast for the mighty DRZ and acquired a new WR. Fantastic bike it is too but the possibility exists (after a few tumbles and a busted shoulder) that I had my ambitions and abilities somewaht confused. Suitably humbled, I still have the WR (it does excellent skids) but have decided to pull my head in a bit. Gumby rider is back and proud of it.

Next came a DL650 as part of my two specialised Japanese bikes for the price of one 950SE theory. So far it is working out well

I ran it in with a quick three day spin to the forests surrounding Port Macquarie. Rod joined me on the BM and with two knobby shod tourers we headed south via a series of unscripted dirt roads and forestry tracks. Bloody marvellous.

We stayed at South West Rocks on the first night and checked out the Trial Bay Gaol remnants in the morning.

With eggs for brekkie and whales wandering past in the background it was a tough way to start a Sunday morning. Bloody Rod and his BM's, he has corrupted me.

I was a little concerned when one of them turned for shore and started making strange sounds but then I realised that the alluring sight of Rod's bike was more than a fellow humpback could resist .

Even the local Roo's looked well fed and unfussed.

After a relaxed start to the day it was time to have some fun, roosting past the occasional 4wd as they pitched their way through the Point Plomer Track.

From there we crossed the ferry into Port and headed west into the hills.

it's been a while Danny.
Good to see you back in the saddle and posting up the usual quality reports
Good choice of bike, and no doubt TK's 2wheels articles helped to solidify the decision to get a DL650. It looks like you've got another thread on the DL's build-up.

...Which makes me feel guilty enough to commit the HP2 to another Pilbara scoot if the weather here doesn't allow me to get out boating.

Hey mate, what are you doing up late. I am doing my shift with the little fella. He was born a whole week ago and he still hasn't worked out that night time is for sleeping .

How is life up north treating you?

Cheers,

Danny

We played on a series of increasingly slippery trails before coming up aginst a locked gate just before the Oxley Hwy.

We worked out an alternate path (using the GPS that lobbed us here to begin with) and set off again.

Then it got dark.

And then Rod's battery went flat.

Now it is an adventure ride.

It wasn't long and we were on the move again though, linking up with the Oxley and doing a late night GP down the range.

It's all good up here mate. The riding is awesome in it's own unique style.

I sent you a PM so as not to detract from this great thread.
