Just get a waterproof tarp... and put it up first.
Then put the tent up.

Waterproof Nylon tarps are really light and pack very small.

That's what I had been doing, but sometimes there just aren't any or enough trees, or just too far apart, hence a different tent desire

I painted my wall today with the free paint I found. Just added a small can of bright yellow, so now it's a really mild sun-touched creamy white yellow, very cheerful and soothing tip.
The after it dried I stuck a big old map of Canada on it. Couldn't really figure out where the TCAT would go so I just ordered the GPX route for the TCAT. They suggest to go East to West, but oh well, gonna have to do this the other way. They also suggest not to do this by oneself…….. Hmmm that might be a bit of a problem
Maybe I should post if anyone else might be going??

We had a fellow from San Diego that rode a lot of it on a Tenere last year. He had ridden the Trans America trail and his basic opinion of the TCAT is not quite ready for prime time but lots of potential. Here is a link to his blog. https://sites.google.com/site/gpskev...ada-trail-2013

The route it uses to go through our neck of the woods (Manitoba border to Thunder Bay) has parts that are not so great if you are using a larger bike with bags and is fairly remote if you need assistance or fuel. I am planning to make up an alternative route that would be better suited to a person on a KLR loaded with camp gear etc and sending it over to them along with a post on ADV.

Hey thanx alot d_r!! I had seen you replying on the TCAT build thread. Maybe I can swing by for a beer on my way through your neck of the woods.
I'll go read his story now.
Again thanx for the information.

Hey Esther, I think we should get a hold of Alex and the three of us tackle this thing! Be like old times.

I would love that! Not sure how we would tackle that as neither of us is anywhere remotely in the neighborhood of each other! Would be epic though, we can all post the journey in our own words and folks would have a laugh!!

I always thought it was best to avoid most if not all work-related activities, up to the point where it made sense to get a job. Too old to hack any other lifestyle anymore.

I while back I found out that there is an REI opening here in Fairbanks, I went and applied figuring that if things didn't work out at Joanns, or B&N I could work there for a while.
Unfortunately they don't open till end of May. Then I got a request for an interview a few days back, but I called back and told them I might not be worth their time as I was leaving in June. However I did leave an email saying if they needed a temp worker that I might be available. Looks like they were interested in that idea! Cool!
I wished they had opened earlier, then I could have been an employee and get a nice discount on their gear!!
