are wheel bearings an issue? 30 years ago in fort greely alaska, the residents at that time had real issues with bearing grease. clean and re pack for one temp and do it again for another temp. that was before the era of sealed bearings.

Cold Starting

I lived in Vermont for 30 years in a house without electricity. On the coldest mornings - 20 to 30 below - I would fill a shallow baking pan with coals from the woodstove and slide it under the oilpan of the car for about 45 minutes before trying to start it. It's not as scary as it sounds and it almost always worked.

Don't have to go that far north to see that.

I recently read that smog (created by vehicle exhaust mixing with fog) is a growing problem in Fairbanks. Have you considered a dog sled as an alternative to the Toyota?

a trick learned in the hills of Korean, in winter.

drain the oil, bring in inside, along with the battery.

makes starting ALMOST easy.

have big fun, NG!

Thanks everyone for your advice! LOL, taking the oil and the battery out every night, hmmmmmm nah, I don't think so!
Anyways, the no electricity is only for a month, then I move into my own cabin. Yay, I can't wait, dog sitting is exhausting especially with a puppy who wants out 2 times in the middle of the night!!!

It has been freezing these last two nights, down to 25 degrees!

The ground crunches when I walk, and who would have known that leaves can make such a racket falling down when they are frozen solid?? It sounded like a bear was walking through the bushes.
I am really enjoying the cold so far, trying to toughen myself up by walking in 30 degree weather with only an under shirt and a polar fleece sweat shirt. so far I seem okay.
They just called me in for work again, I don't seem to get a day off!! I don't mind as I really need the money.
Till later

Here they are!

Still dark, but the flash made the falling snow very visible

The dogs were having fun, I was barely awake at 6 AM

The little path to my car. Luckily it's only a three minute walk.

Today I have a day off!! Yay, the temp dropped to 17 degrees last night! So yeah, it's getting colder fast!!

When it looks like this... then you've got snow.

Yikes! looks like the roof caved in!!
Glad the snow here in Fairbanks is dry and powdery, not so heavy.
Today I ran out of Ray's soap! I used it sparingly cause it smelled so good. The chocolate covered raisins weren't as lucky!!

Another week has gone by, and I'm looking forward to a day off tomorrow. I'm thinking of not answering the phone if work calls! The Toyota had one teensy problem, the mechanic said that the engine was about to blow. Needless to say I didn't buy it.
Tuesday I'll go looking at an old dodge. I think I can finally afford to buy a junk car on Friday as I get another paycheck.

Just had to post a pic of this outhouse with a view

Found another walking path

I've been staying in this little camper for a few days while the owner of the house is back.
Tomorrow she leaves for another three weeks, so I'll have the house back.

It's looking like I have a full class on October first, I'm excited, my first adult cake decorating class.
I hope they like it enough to take course 2, 3 an 4 as well.

Today has been snowing non stop, but supposedly it wont last and the rains will start mid week.
Right now it is about 25 degrees, and I am walking outside in a thin blouse and a polarfleece sweatshirt.
I'm getting tough
