But I want a close ratio six speed box on a 650 as they reckon it is the ants pants!

hunted around a bit for weight reduction mods for the TR650 and it mainly seems to be:
- save a few kg replacing the stock battery with one of those new hi tech ones
- convert to a single exhaust
- chop off the rear peg brackets if you are really desperate.

anyone heard of anything else? just tossing up between this and a DR650SE (again) for my next adv bike and the DR having almost 20kg less lard is a big selling point....

How much more fuel do you need to carry to travel the same distance?

What other tanks are or will be available for the Terra? (Rumoured Safari tank so far and also X tank)

Once you head to a class of bike such as this I question the merit of spending too much dough on trying to lighten it. It is what it is and will never be a lightweight offroader.

The biggest bang for the buck will be in the items you've identified & that'll be about it. If this isn't enough you should probably look at a lower weight bike like a 690R or TE630, or indeed the DR if you are happy with a little less performance.

The Husky Oz website says that a larger tank is in development.

Well I spent the past two days with two 24 hour test rides, first on a Sertao and then the Terra... I was ready to plunk down cash for the Terra tonight, when on the way I got a call from a Husky dealer a couple hours north who just had a TE630 with less then 500 miles traded in. Pics look spot less, bike looks like it has never seen dirt. So now what do I do? Loved my TE630 until it got stolen in the middle of the night but 24 hours with the Terra was fantastic. Which one do you guys think has better prospects of long term reliability and lower cost of ownership? I know I could be very happy with either and that is kind of the tipping point. Well the $1000-1500 cheaper to start with for the used TE630 is kind of nice too.

Lots of bits can be improved/replaced for the price difference between a Terra and a 690R!

I know a couple of blokes that had almost 990 money invested in there 690Rs, still couldn't make them what they wanted, both now sold. Wont tell you what they bought, it would upset some of the Orange precious!!

I does a bit-not a lot. - I am not after much wind protection at the moment - the wind is all clean low turbulance and I'm wearing an open face. In winter I use an electric vest and cover up. The screen is close to the headlight and it kind of pick sup the light from it at night and creates this neat glow around the edges.
