Great ride!

Thanks for taking the time to make this a very interesting RR especially for an old fart like me who can only do something like this from my recliner. For awhile I was out there too, so thanks again.

So the good gentlemen at Ducati Minneapolis hooked me up with a new rear tire (thanks again, guys), but while it was in I figured I'd have a few more items done, too....pipe was wrapped, new front tire, the Dyno of course, and a couple other odds and ends. While all that was being done they flipped me the key to their demo 848 Streetfighter. :abduct:

Course it started hailing 10 minutes after I left, but what a bike. Once the sun came out I got some good shots of my toy for the day.

Thought I like the classic look of the monster, I really loved the aggressive, transformer look of the Streetfighter. Though the power isn't mind-numbing, it really is a perfect city bike and those termis produced raw and lusty sounds--especially on deceleration, where unburnt fuel would burble and crack. And the handling, riding position and flickability of it brought back many fond memories of being on the RM two strokes of my youth. Now I know why so many Ducati owners own more than one.....it's those damn demo bikes they give you the keys to while your bike is being serviced!

I mentioned before the serendipitous crossing of paths that led to me meeting John Meyer, the President of DOOM (Ducati Owners of Minneapolis). They wanted to take me out to dinner on Thursday, and I happily obliged. Jon Baklund, DOOM's VP (who also manufactures parts for NASA spacecraft) and his wife Tara picked me up and chauffeured me to and from the restaurant (which meant I could drink without worrying about riding back, woohoo!).

Had a great dinner, lots of laughs and great conversation. Super bunch of guys - and both Jon and John's wives were awesome as well. Both are fortunate to have such wonderful women in their lives. Tara even prepared bottles of infused oils to help ease my injuries. Too sweet. (And now instead of sweat and grease, I smell like potpourri floating effortlessly on a summer breeze.)

The dude in black smiling a little bit like Rob Lowe is Chachi....more to come on our adventures the following night (teaser: I'm still sleep deprived and a little hungover).

So even though I've only been in Minneapolis for about a week, I've stayed in 4 different places. (Wait--Chachi's couch makes 5!) I stayed the most days at this place:

Looks pretty bitchin' on the outside. The exterior is made from rusticated sandstone and features a terrace, an arched entrance porch, carved ornamental panels, and a crested copper dormer on the peak of the roof. The interior is decorated with oak and sycamore woodwork, Tiffany lighting, and gold-leaf scrollwork. That's the way you'd describe it if you were the owner trying to sell it.

In reality it has more in common with the Paper Street House from Fight Club than it does with whatever the historical register says.

I am Jack's smirking lack of concern.

Was too busy to make any soap, though.

AntiHero, I know Pike's was days ago, but I thought you'd enjoy this video.

Thanks for the great RR!

QUOTE:>>From the glorious 848 Color schemes it's clear that Ducati knew it had to do SOMETHING that didn't involve tooling to keep people buying 848s in what I'm guessing is their final production run. And fuck yes it's working (at least for the purposes of this moto-porn post). How the Japanese have not yet learned a lesson from Ducati's aesthetics teams blows my mind. I love Japanes bikes, but the adolescent graphics have got to go. Gather around engineers of the rising sun. You want to sell yesteryear's bike tomorrow? Here's how it's done:

So true, I hope they listen.

Love the video, Mug. Brings back lots of scary memories!

My all time favorite drink up till Thursday night had been Hendrick's and Tonic. Hendrick's is an 'oddly' made gin and I was first turned onto it by one cool dude and Hendricks' audacious slogan, "One in 100 people prefer Hendrick's." Since then it's grown in popularity, but I rarely hear anyone ask for it. Then Chachi shows up and orders Hendrick's and Tonic with bitters. And hit me in the back of the head with a broken shelf--the bitters instead of lime increase my love of this drink twofold. (Or, if you judge me by the number of them I consumed over a 24 hour period, perhaps 12 fold.)

So just about after I recovered from the overconsumption of spirits on Thurs., SuperChachi scores us both tickets to Nitro Circus. Couple drinks before and one during the movie started things out right.

And after we head into his territory.

Nothing like taunting death to ensure a long, healthy existence:

Everyone everywhere knew the man. And no, I'm not talking like, "hey, you're the guy who touched me in the locker room when I was 13" kind of know him. Bouncers, girls, hip looking maniacs knew and also LIKED him, which was a relief when you're (meaning 'me') an introvert who's also a little bit of an agoraphobe.

We hit up Seven, a rooftop bar and after a couple more rounds of drinks, and a couple more, the night began to shape up as being one of those epic nights you can't remember very much of. Fortunately I did take a few pictures, which dislodged even more memories, but after a certain point it was just all a haze.

Chachi had three groups of girls cycling in and out of conversation and laughter. No idea how he did it, but, well,....pictures kind of tell the story better than I could:

(No, they didn't actually kiss, ya pervert.)

We ended up going to the highest security pizza place I've ever been to. Had to stuff my Strider into my boot just to get through:

And then we ended up walking back to his apartment among some fairly shady characters who did not like us, but out came the Strider and all was well.

I have no idea where this picture was taken, but I do remember it being more than amusing than it should have been.

And finally....bedtime just before sunrise:

Superbikes are super

Love the way you USE your bike. I know to many people who are afraid of putting some millage on their expensive toys...

I hope you have a safe journey and thanks for those amazing photos... (I assume Ducati will contact you to use them in some advertising)... They are just much better than many of the other promotional photos I have seen...

Keep up the good work...

Bad ass. I hope the D.R.ILL. boys in Chicago show you a good party time while you're there. I started that club and I'd show you up for sure. Have fun dude and keep rocking! Gas and tires baby!

Hit up the crazy euro dude Mark at Player's in Chicago. A Ducatisti. He'll give you a proper intro to the Chi.
