XR 650R: Ultimate Jetting Instruction for Dummies

Hi,

after much reading i would like to start a thread for dummies and noobies like me for proper jetting the XR 650 R.

Mode: XR 650R 07 DK or U model (not sure)
Exhaust: Pro-Circuit complete exhaust
Inlet: Xronly Side Panel cutout

Altitude: Sea level < 1000feet
Temperature: 75-95ºF
Humidity: 70-90% [Angola]

Pilot: 68s
Need: B53E

Where should I start with?

*** XR650R Uncorked /stock header with HRC tip / B53E Comp Needle***

Use a main jet one size smaller when using a drilled stock tip instead of the HRC tip
Use a main jet one to two sizes larger when your side panel is cutout
If the stock needle is used, then ad +1 to the clip position listed below
Use a main jet one size larger with a high flow aftermarket exhaust canister
Use a main jet two sizes larger when using a larger diameter aftermarket header & exhaust canister

Try 178 main -b53e needle 3rd of 4th groove from top 68s pilot

From all the feedback and what I read this seen to be more or lens consensus:


Pilot: 68s
Need: B53E
Mainjet Size: 175
Clip Position: 3rd position counted down from top of needle (and adjusted if needed).

Fuel Mixture: 2 1/2 turns out

Float Bowl: Don't know if any change is needed here?!

I'll prefer to jett in the richer side and the adjust.

I'll give some feedback about this ;)

Couldn´t get my hands on a 178 and used a 175 on the 4th position down from top.

Bike running stronger, wheely comes out every time...sound perfect but need further test drive.

Just noticed some increment on oil temperature but not sure if results from higher air temperature (sommer is coming up), or any other reason.

Low rpm...not so strong

In low rpm bike not so strong...not sure what to do.

Try do adjust air mix or move needle?

Guys, need some advice how to proceed.

Hy larryboy, tnks for your feedback.

I'll do some more tests to evaluate low to mid throttle performance, midrange and three-quarters to full throtle performance, and take some readings.

I'll remove spark plug and clear it to see any changes in spark plug to help reading engine lean/rich condition and be right back with some more data.

Jetting

Have about the same motor and pipe setup but with Hot Cam 2. Fuel screw 1.5,68s,HRC needle in 2nd clip from top,175 main.Works very good at my 6000 plus elevation.For Baja I use a 180 main.Clean,economical midrange and plenty of fuel for hard pulls.Lots of miles with this combo and it works very well for me. PS- modern gas does not give a very accurate plug color.

Gary Jetting table HELP



Need some help with Gary table.

1) What is exactly the "high flow aftermarket exhaust canister"? Is my T4 Pro circuit complet exhaus in this category?

2) What is exacty the "larger diameter aftermarket header & exhaust canister". Is my T4 Pro circuit complet exhaust in this category?

Need some help with table.

Regarding Main Jet, Gary says: " Use a Main Jet one to two size larger when your side panel is cutout".

In using XRonly side panel cut out.

In your experience, where did you find best results with main jet: 1 or 2 size larger? Tnks
