Don't worry, I can't wheelie either
![]() I didn't bring much on my test run but this time around I'll need warmer clothes, rope, and a tarp.

I might be able to make it. I have a trip out west before it so might not be able to take the time. I'll let you know as we get closer.
I have a KTM 690 and Garmin 60csx that will take tracks. Seems like tracks would be the best way to try this thing.

Ahh, such enthusiasm
I'd better go ahead and lockdown the dates so there is no confusion. I'd like to begin riding Saturday the 22nd from Sutton, VT and return the 28th for the Rednek Rendezvous, a good 3 there/back ordeal. My dates are pretty inflexible as I'm a desk jockey with a week off, but my pace is loose as long as we are riding. I have a delorme pn60 showing up soon which will be a delight to get used to I'm sure. I read your ride report this morning 8gv during breakfast, sounds like a real adventure, glad you were unscathed when you decided to have fun with the rock Your bike on the other hand If your write up taught me anything it was that state campground reservations is a pleasant experience

Ok so it's a definite maybe for me. I'll be out of town the week before so a day and night of "reaquaintance" may delay me. I may need to join up with the herd on day two.

Are you going to be rockin' a GPS with the tracks loaded? Getting to follow instead of lead will be a new thing for me. I'm clear on the dust and rocks I'll be eating but you're not going to shed any parts are you???

Yeah I got a Delorme pn60 on the way used from an inmate. I'll have the tracks on the gps and I downloaded all the satellite imagery for the region
To my iPhone as a backup. I also am in the process of copying the Delorme paper map, stitching together the grids and outlining the route. It will be about 80x40 and should be done tonight so I can post a pic. I'll figure out how to laminate it so I can bring a paper map on the trip. Been spending my down time at work searching abandoned railroads and there are steam engines abandoned out there, I'm trying to find coordinates.

If there are Garmin compatible tracks available I'll be happy to get them loaded into my 60csx as a back up. After the first 800 of my 1300 TET ride I actually figured out how to follow them.

I've never wanted to do 4 wheeling...until now
http://advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=738971Many of the same roads for the first stretch. The abandoned trains 50 miles from usable tracks is piquing my interest, although reading up on the North Maine Woods this morning I see they are not keen on bikes.

Nope, not an area you want to take a bike (believe me, I know). Stay off the Golden Rd in the Millinocket area as well. We go to the trains a few times every winter with the sleds, prettycool... Might have to take the Jeep up sometime to see it in the fall. Have a safe trip and I hope the weathers on your side as well.

It appears pretty much the top half of Maine is owned by the North Maine Woods, a group of logging companies. Everyone is allowed on the logging roads for a fee at the manned checkpoints.....except motorcycles
![]() I just rechecked the delorme Atlas and indeed there are manned checkpoints and barriers galore, that explains why Canuman avoided the area altogether when putting the route together. I do see portions of the golden road open however per my internet searches, but those trains are quite far up north and we would have to hike/canoe in. ![]() Here is a link to the border, you can see it's Greenville and above for the most part, how this is legal is beyond me, but there is plenty to see in Maine so I'll get over it. http://www.northmainewoods.org/images/pdf/smallmap.pdf
