Well I am not scheduled to work that weekend but it would be close to the date before I could commit to going. Schedule it kinda hectic.

ray i hope you can make it

was out scouting with Flashback for a camp sight and found a few that will fit the bill

with that said it looks like we can have a nice camping area with pickneck tables
and fire ring at every sight at west morris mt campground alcohl allowed 5$per night
with toilet no running water or showers

or if the group would like we could do a back country camping at the river on the back side of
uwharrie for free and be able to fish the night away but it take sevrel miles of greavl rd. to get there
so street bike my not feel safe riding that much greavl rd.

post up with your opinion and let me know what you thank

I would be down with either one, although Misses Donkeys likes the idea of toilets.

I'm not all that worried about gravel roads with my RT but if it rains won't that make those roads a real mess? If I go I'll probably show up rain or shine. I need a trip like this. I would like warm showers though.

I could do the gravel roads to. Just have to go a little slower. No biggy. Sometimes toilets are a good thing ;)

Showers are going to be kind of tough. They only exist at the bigger campgrounds and the bigger campgrounds are ripe with prohibitions and restrictions on activity and what you can have in your possession. Also...showers cost $3 each time you use one.

Basically the two camping options we have where we can have alcohol and/or not be in violation of any known statute for having properly secured firearms with us.

1) West Morris Campground -> $5 per night, inland from Badin OHV area off SR 1134 on the east side of 109., private and quiet. Accessible from the tarmac. The only facility is a wheel chair accessible vault toilet - no running water. This campground is typically used by hunters and hikers.

2) Primitive Camping on the Narrows Reservoir in the area of the Deep Water Trail Camp -> Free. No Facilities. Existing fire pits and pull offs on FSR 576 within an easy walking distance of the water for sticking toes in and fishing. Accessible ONLY by maintained dirt road. Conditions of the road change with the weather. Today it was in fine shape and easily doable for someone on a street bike or crotch rocket IF they were to go easy. This road is the main access road for the Badin Lake OHV area. It gets dusty when there is no rain. It gets muddy in the rain. It's an adventure but because it is a main road, it gets maintained a lot.

If we want more amenities than this we will have to give up the right to posses alcohol and carry firearms OR we will need to go to another park.

Well in this case, Misses Donkeys can relive her Army days and pee in the woods.

For folks interested here's a group ride that was "all pavement". Note that my RT wasn't the most street bike there.

https://picasaweb.google.com/1024247...Nm4wqOVrr-_9gE

Also note that folks who want to join this group - BMWROK - go to http://www.bmwrok.org/ and check it out.

The group just did a rally at TWO WHEELS - story on that page. I don't think there was a problem there with alcohol but it's on MY side of the mountain.

Well I went back out to Uwharries today, this time with Mrs. Flash. It was a year ago this weekend that the F800 and an idiot cage driver on a cell phone took out poor Flashs leg in a blaze of glory (actually it was a really pathetic wreck...but damn if my Xrays don't make me look like Robocop now).

Well, Mrs. and I had planned to go camping in the Uwharries a year ago this weekend and so to provide closure on the accident and my healing we went out there today. It was her first time in the NF and we tooled around, got off the bikes and did some recreating, and just had a good time. Then we got dumped on by a big ole storm...but we still had fun.

She says that WE (as in the ADV Group) should camp at West Morris. She loved it in there. She also says that if she can do the Uwharries dirt roads (umm mud roads) in a rain storm on street tires...so can anyone. That's the misses. She has zero dirt experience and she plows right into it with confidence and ease.

On the way home we went up through the north part of the NF and Birkhead wilderness. Some good tarmac riding up that way. Good twisty street routes for riding.

I'm thinking my vote now goes to West Morris Camping area.
