Whew! All caught up!

I take a few days off the internets and look at all the stuff that happens! It really is a great adventure, Paul! Looking forward to more!

In an effort to keep my feet from itching too much, I've tried to avoid the Ride Reports here...Had to see what you're up too these days though!

Goes without saying your report is brilliant, happy to see you out there buddy. Missing the days when we were cruising Central America.

I'm holed up in Aspen, CO for a while. Obviously you're a number of years out, but when you're back in the Rockies, drop me a line. You'll have lodging and cold beer sorted.

Salud y Buen Viaje Amigo!

Team Erzberg on the 690's headed into the hills between the northern and central route, and the 1190 had it's own adventures further south. We found fuel in every single petrol station on the way east and not a drop of rain. Lots of sand but that's why we ride fast. Makes it easier ;)

We're having a service break in Ulan Ude right now. Headed towards the BAM. The 1190 will not be joining, but is headed for the coast instead.

Wishing you safe trails!

glad you guys made it thru ok...great to meet you...what was the turkish guys name? is he on here as i'll be heading thru turkey soon?

the Altai is beautiful, in the morning especially, maybe a little cold before the sun get over the mountains

i had a route sahred with me by Jeff from Kudu who i think got it from Colebatch, it heads to Barnaul, but slightly to the west parralling the main road, more off road, less traffic, more villages...it was great, very quiet and obviously not that well traveled by riders as everytime i stopped people were very surprised i was in their village

the villages look very quaint and pitcuresqe in the sunlight but i have ridden thru some when its raining and dark and the feeling is not the same, it makes you feels very remote and depressed, as all the wood goes dark it could be a good setting for some horror movie...so needless to say i have to find a way to get inside one

the Altai is gradually flattening out, mountains are now not as tall and spread more apart and the landscape in areas turns to rolling hills

i get into the area where some of the bad floods happened, the road has been remade, recently, some sections are missing and there is go rounds thru deep bush and forest

every horizon when i think it will end it just keeps going

then there it is, the end, one large round hill and after it...flatness, instant flatness

i have a waypoint for a hotel, i'm thinking cheap and simple, i get there and it under renovation, not another for 150K, and with the flat ground and massive farming here open spaces are no good for wild camping

as i am looking at maps and my GPS trying to figure something out a guy comes from the far end of the building and asks if i'm OK...we speak a little, he tells me his son speaks fluent English and gets him on the phone. with him i confirm there are no other hotels, no campsites, big industrial farming everywhere...his dad owns a satellite business located at the far end of the building, he looks like a nice guy, friendly nice car, so i ask the son on the phone, will you ask your dad if i can set my tent up at his house....i'm told no problem, but i still hand the phone back to him, his name is Alex, he nods to me and indicates me to follow him...don't know why i felt impelled to do this but here goes...i am led here
