Merry Christmas to both of you! And thanks for the incredible ride report you've given us along your journey. It's been awesome following you along the way - especially through the gazillions of great pics you've taken.

There are several pedestrian only roads from here and one leads to the Mercado central. On the corner is a great empanada place packed with locals and where we had a delicious lunch. Inside is the fish market and lots of overpriced restaurants.

The valve checks at BMW Santiago are done and there are no issues. The tires arrived by air shipment to Motoadventura from Germany today too. Things are looking up.

Here in Chile its not BMW! Actually it is this is just the initials of the dealership on a new 800 GS.

Now for the all night flight to Miami! We had a great week with 40 friends and family to celebrate the marriage of Gillian and Bruno. There was an official marriage ceremony on Friday night in Vancouver. Sara’s stepmother is a Judge so she performed the ceremony and we watched from Santiago Airport, her sister Emma from Tel Aviv airport and her Brother and his family in Ottawa all via Skype.

After a very long night flight we arrived in Miami along with eventually almost all the other 40 family and guests. Only Sara’s Dad and Barbara were stuck in Toronto because of the weather. Some of the gang with their team shirts and visors.

Moto 1 year on the road overhaul in Santago

We managed to get a duffle bag and 2 carry on bags on the cruise ship containing only bike parts that we had shipped to Miami and our cameras. They said there was no rule against bike parts that they could find. We had packed our bag for the cruise and left it in Vancouver for family to bring, so we would have no luggage for the return trip to Santiago except the parts. We were a bit worried that the airplane security and Chile customs could be a bit of a problem. At the airport in Miami they seemed a bit confused, but let us thru with very little issue. After another all night flight we arrived in Santiago at 715 am. We had been warned by our friend Clive that unlike land crossings, when you enter by Air into Chile you must pay a 132$ reciprocity fee. They x-ray your bags here and of course pulled our bags aside. They were actually very nice and after we explained that we were fixing the bikes and all the parts were leaving the country they let us thru. We took a taxi to drop off our Christmas gifts from Santa to Ruben at Johnny Motos and then another taxi ride to BMW to get the bikes for a total of ouch 70$. We finally arrived back at the Johnny Motos shop very tired at 1030.

Ruben’s shop is very clean and organized. He is a very efficient, competent, and careful mechanic. We have 4 riding friends who have had work here and we were very happy with the job he did for us.

Vina del Mar and Valapriso

Now to race to the coast on Christmas Eve before dark and more important before the liquor store closes. We did have to settle for empanadas, a bag of chips, and a coke from the corner store for Dinner, but at least the botteleria was open for some wine.

Christmas day it was dead quiet in town and we walked to the seashore and past the famous flower clock.

For Christmas dinner we had planned to meet up with fellow rider Orvar (Kingdom of Sweden) and his wife Anne who flew in to meet him. They will have a great view for the fireworks.

Although I won't be fortunate enough to go very far South next year, I'm hoping to at least make it to Colombia in Apr for a 2-3 weeks trip with a good friend from CR. I've already taken some good notes from your adventures, so I'm sure that'll come handy. :-)

As for the rest for South America, I'll have to live it vicarously thru your RR for now.

I met another couple from BC in Playa Hermosa (near Jaco) yesterday. They came down 2-up on a 800GS, and are looking at going South shortly from what I gather. Maybe you guys will run into each other further South, or on another continent!

Happy New Year - wherever you end up to be tomorrow!

You will LOVE Colombia. You must go to the great Hacienda we stayed in in Chinchina. They are super nice people. Also don't miss the riding around Barichara.

Valaparaiso looks great ...

Wow ... your pics of Valaparaiso (I'm assuming that's where most of these pics are from?) make it look like a nice, friendly place. As always - appreciating the quality - and sheer quantity of your pictures.

Best wishes to you and Daniel for a Happy New Year.
