Doug & the Fonz

Thanks so much. We were lucky as I had a work conference on the ship. We got an amazing deal on the fares. It was a once in a lifetime experience. Hanging out with penguins is too cool. We were so lucky with the weather. It was the best our expedition leader had seen in his 25 years. The Drake crossing on the way over was so good we made a bonus landing in the Aitcho islands. The crossing on the way back was so calm we were able to head over to view Cape Horn.

Aitcho Islands

After 2 easy days at sea we awoke to almost flat calm water.

We got to explore 2 islands with colonies of Chinstrap and Gentou penguins and their chicks. They all seem to be busy and rushing "somewhere". One even crashed into Daniel's leg while he was taking a photo.

The afternoon was spent checking out the penguins and then Zoziac touring the ice. There were so many crab eater seals on the fast ice (sea ice attached to the shore) it was amazing. We hiked to see the views of Mount Francais and viewed it thru the old observatory window.

Amazing pictures. Way to go :clap:clap:clap

Good to hear from you guys. Make sure you keep going north on Ruta 40 until you reach Perito Moreno. From there take # 45 direction Rio Ibanez. You will ride next to "Lago Buenos Aires". There is a very small border to go back into Chile (It is called Pass Pallavicini) Just Amazing. From there you can take all the Route # 7 Carretera Austral all the way to Puerto Mont. Let me know. Cheers.

Border Pass Pallavicini

Lago Buenos Aires or General Carrera
