How do you buy a bike in another country, register it and then drive it back to the USA?
Can you register a bike while on a tourist visa?

Does the US government allow a bike from another country to come in?

I'm just curious

Still loving it and reading about you guys in Panama now

How do you capture pictures while riding?
I can see you using the camera on the side of the helmet, do you have it running all the time capturing images every couple of seconds?

He bought it new at a bike shop. You can drive in Peru without plates, but you can not cross the border. He had Peruvian Plates, but I never asked him how he "got them". We met a German girl who lived in Peru and she said it took ages for her to get her plates. Most people would photoshop the paperwork I think. I'm not sure about the USA rules, but he seemed to think he could do it, but for the price he paid I think he would not care if he had to ditch the bike in Mexico.

JUst wait till SA it is even more awesome!!!

This photo is from a Contour Camera. Then we just had 1, but now that we have 2 Dan's is set for video and mine for stills. You can also get decent stills from the video. They are awesome under water too. They are some much better than GO Pro, but they flooded the market and Contour went bankrupt last year....so we ran out to get a second one. Also we had Shark flip helmets and so we could not ride with a Go Pro.

They are super easy to turn on and off with a slide switch and there is a beep too. Mine is set to 1 second between shots , so i can turn it on when I see something interesting or the riding gets tough and hopefully get the shot i want out of the 20 or so. It is great for time lapse as you will see in our Salar de Uyuni video. It's too bad my camera came unglued in Peru (probable from the cold), since there was some crazy stuff in the few days it took for us to get the time to get it stuck back on! Ahh the memories.....nightmares.

to BA

From here we headed to Salta in 156 km for a 3-day stay to rest up and clean up.

Dan needed to ride the 4- meter section of the 9 one more time!

Now it is time to just ride south to BA! The route we chose was less direct but then we did not need to cover the same ground on the 9. We spent the first night in Catamarca 536 km.

Today we are completeing our 6 week over 13,000 km loop to and from La Falda. Arriving here after 445 km we were happy to be greated by the friendly faces of Walter and Dagmar and hosted to a great dinner and nights stay.

Since we did not leave their house until after an asado lunch at 3 pm we only made it to Villa Maria again on the 9 after 224 km.

Today we opted again for the less direct route on the 4 south to La Carlota and then south and east on the 8 to San Antonio de Areco at 501 km. This is a town famous for the Gaucho (Argentinian cowboy) culture.

The last day of this leg of the journey is a short 84 km to San Miguel near Buenos Aires. We were welcomed by Ramiro and Pia, whom we had met in Panama and in Vancouver on their way to Alaska last year. Pia’s father Martin has been kind enough to host us here in his home and store our bikes in his garage for the 4 months we are home. This meant Asado for dinner!!

A tour of "The Delta"

Ramiro and Pia live on “ the Delta” and their house is only accessable by water. They took us for a tour on the river and canal system.

Love that picture of the "log boat"!

As always, your pics are great. That "log boat" one is unreal! It looks like it used to be some other kind of boat (maybe passenger?) and then found new life as a mule hauling wood!

tour of BA with Pia

Today we took the train the bus and the subway in Buenas Aires. First we headed to the family bakery for some snacks to enjoy in the Centenial Park. We then walked in the Rigoletto district and visited the famous cemetery there.
