Charlie 's CSM muti purpose doggie hack
Charlie's CSM built outfit is unique. We had done the california sidecar / 1200 V Strom setup for Charlie a while back. Then later on a Burgman/Hannigan for Charlie's wife.
Then after a while Charlie decided he wanted something that he could carry his dogs in and also run a couple of dual sport events with. Well what you see below is a california sidecar chassis that has been fitted with a custom CSM aluminum body. It can still be interchanged with the original california sidecar body. The new body is 1/8" aluminum powdercoated black chrome. The body has a removable aluminum hardtop. There are screened sidecurtains for the sides of the top as well as clear plastic ones. The windscreen is lexan. On the rear is a lockable trunk door. The hoop on the back is to hold a t bag for travel and for carrying necessities for the dogs. Roto pax containers for doggie water and V Strom gas are also on board. Charlie and his Wife and doggies should be at the USCA National Rally coming up soon The bike had already been setup with Side Effects Modified trees, a car tire on the rear and an adjustable torsion bar rear suspension assist system from the earlier build by C Stanley Motorsports. Please disregard the dates on the pictures:-) ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

I leave for Australia tomorrow. I have talked IMWA and one of the Australian dealers into supplying me with a Ural, now all I have to do is drive a rig that has the hack on the wrong side, on the wrong side of the road while trying not to fall off as I'll b upside down. Have FUN, take lots of photos.

My journey will be constrained to covering most of the eastern half of your country, and time spent at the OCR. I'll wave as the plane is landing in Brisbane, that way you should be able to see me from your side of the Continent.

Howdy TouringDave,
As I did NOT waste my youth consuming vast amounts of alcohol, my liver is in fine shape so that I can now as an old fart drink till I drop.

Claude,
I'm considering attaching a California Friendship sidecar to my DL1000. Do you have any more pictures or information about the original build of this rig. Could you elaborate on a comment you made in a thread last year? "We have modified quite a few of these sidecars also. The question comes down to cost vs value. We take the stock swingarm pivot area on the frame and and turn it into a 1" spindle, redo the swingarm and then add a splined end torsion bar across under the sidecar frame. This also makes for a manual tilt control by turning one bolt on the bike side. It works well but again the question is whether it is worth it or not." How much does this kind of modification usually cost? Thanks, Swan |

Very nice. My fiancee has been mentioning she would like a roof. Maybe something like that is in our future.
