120 mile desert loop
What a great day in the desert, Bill (ConTeacher) led John and I on great loop that incoporated previous LAB2V hard way sections, lots of single track (more like tire tracks), hill climbs and of course sand. Bill had taken me on some of these tracks before and John kep saying the same thing over and over, "Bill has this desert wired", he kept us moving connecting one track to another all day.
Drove out to a secret staging area ![]() ![]() The top of one of our many hill climbs jnyrav ![]() me ![]() On our way out to the Husky Monument, Bill led us up some swithcback single track jnyrav working his way up ![]() ![]() We hung out at Husky for a little bit ![]() Some more beautiful tracks out of Husky. The pics don't show it very well but this whole area looked like it had been dusted in green powder. ![]() ![]() We made a quick stop at Inscription Canyon; Bill and John ![]() ![]() A high speed run getting to our next track, Bill out in front and John behind ![]() ![]() We made a quick stop in Helendale for a pitcher and then back to the trucks. The ride back to the trucks had everything to offer and we were riding fast (no pics); dancing around the bushes, narrow winding sand washes, whoops and wash outs. Thanks for the tour Bill

Glad you guys had fun! Next time we'll head east to Slash-X then out toward Johnson Valley. On a side note, you can tell we had 35mph wind - my hair never stands up like that, even with Brylcream...

The Mojave Trail
BARSTOW-MOJAVE TRAIL-LAUGLIN NEVADA
for years, i've heard of the MOJAVE TRAIL and really had no interest because of the difficulty level. i hate sand. anyway, it's not far from home, why not. worst case, turn around and go home. this ride had been planned a few times for a span of 2 months, but we could not get the planets to aligned themselves. the end of winter is already around the corner, and we have to make this happen. finally a date was set - march 9 and 10....and glad to see 5 riders made a solid commitment plus a rider coming from vegas to join us part of the trail. later in the week, a blessing from the sky came as a rain ...that pretty much sealed the deal. the damp sand on both days was a big plus on traction. no, i won't do this ride solo or just with a partner. the place is unfamiliar and easy to get lost, the desert is not forgiving, fuel is critical, the terrain is challenging, and to say the least, the total miles is about 400. we are lucky, we found a good rider (lior) who is familiar with the area and offered to lead the ride. the plan was to truck to barstow. stage the ride from there, take the dirt route to afton canyon then to kelbaker. on the antelope freeway, the drive up and a reminder winter is still here ![]() typical socal winter sport...skiing and desert dirt bike riding ![]() yours? ![]() along the 14 ![]() approaching the town of mojave ![]() staying here friday night

after breakfast at ihop, all are here and showing off our body gloves cap
![]() from barstow took a little pavement on our way to the trailhead ![]() lior in a ktm jacket who i invited so he can lead the ride. ![]() a little puddle from yesterday's rain. nice, the desert got soaked but not washed out. ![]() i love the wide open space ![]() todd rides a 600 lb. gsa everywhere, but this time on the 525 exc, he felt that a heavy weight was lifted off his shoulder. ![]() crossing the infamous mojave river at afton canyon ![]() wasn't really that deep ![]() ![]() more coming. tune in. |
