saturday afternoon....leading the way on lake nascimiento dam

present water level

entering fort hunter liggett you'll see rich's old wheels

made to the other side of the mountain and finally saw the ocean

the view

not a common sight when riding dirt

after setting up our tents, we rode down to gorda via south coast ridge

south coast ridge road was in bad shape. lots of silts, ruts and china rocks. doing this on the ride up will be more difficult.

hanging out at gorda

the sun sinking in the pacific

took nascimiento/ferguson on the way back to camp

a little b.s. back in camp, feeling tired and we all went to bed @ 10:30 pm.

sunday morning, i was up earlier than usual. the view several steps from our campground.

took a walk and was surprised to see gorgeous nekkid blonde chic about to take a shower. she was just as surprised to see an asian with a camera...hahaha. sorry no pic!

i turned my back and waited for 5 minutes to give her time to put on some clothes. she showed up in her black underwear....yikes.

i moved along and took more pics for all you PPs.

the day before, someone did a digger on this silty road. it is steeper than it looks. the left side is the better line. the rider is now recovering.

dave and ben were up when i came back to camp

i am happy with this 1-P tent. sets up quick and easy to pack into small bag.

campground restrictions

leaving the campground

getting on nascimiento-fergurson rd

ocean view that never gets tiring

decision has to be made at the bottom of nascimiento

but first, a very important business has to be settled

at this point, only 3 of us are left. ben rode south and we headed up north on 1, to bixby bridge (past big sur)

it was about 40 miles from nascimiento to the bridge. long ride, considering we still have to go back where we started. at least the ride was pleasant!

my riding buddies could not resist to pose in front of the camera

of course, for you skeptics, you can see i was there too

the much needed selfie

took several pics and only this one came out clear. p & s cameras don't work well in this environment.

back out in the open

then into the canyon once more

we climbed out of the canyon onto here

for every pic of me, rich gets 20..hahaha

dave felt obliged to pose

i think the coast road is only about 16 miles, and we have to put 80 scenic miles on to get there and back. yes, it was well worth it.

final installment

the ride home south on the coast highway was uneventful but pleasant

never a boring ride on twisties with ocean view

looks like a bunker

back at you rich

where are the tourists?

stopped at cambria for lunch

our favorite restaurant was closed on sunday afternoon

approaching morro bay

rode by some vineyards at foxen canyon

stopped at cold springs tavern for cold refreshments. dave skipped this place to get home.

there was a band playing inside and listened to the music

lots of women hanging out

a little history

on east camino cielo above santa barbara

rich and i continued on to hw192 looking at $$$$$ homes and ended up in carpenteria. by then, it was around 7 pm, and after getting gas, back on the dreaded 101; boredom and fatigue set in.

awesome weekend. we got to explore new areas with excellent roads for bikes. the weather wasn't too bad and no flats. sorry to see johnG got hurt, only 50 feet from the campground. john, you take care and have a quick recovery.

d606 rear after 800 miles

and the front @ 2000 miles

till the next ride, hasta luego mis amigos!

That was a great trip, I'm so jealous!

I was on 1 a couple of years ago when that covered part of the route was being built. Fascinating and crazy how that road is kept from entirely falling into the ocean. That area is called Waterfall of Rocks or something disturbing like that.

not over yet, another reconstruction just north of nascimiento. good thing we were on bikes and got to ride in front of the line.

i want to go back on pch on a bigger bike. plenty of long stretches of scenic highway without a stop light. i think riding south and on the ocean side is the best. can pull over to the side without going across the opposite lane.

sue, i hope you're recovery is going along well. see you around.

DSM8 and I are doing a slab run this weekend. Up the 395 to the 108, then over the mountain. Spending the night in Angels Camp. Saturday over the mountains on the 4, then back over again on the 88, down the 49 and then across the valley hooking up on the 130. Alice's for dinner and then schlep on to the coast and camping just south of half moon bay. Sunday riding the coast south, and then the ususal twisties through SLO, SB and Ventura counties.

Distance ~1200 miles for three days, camping light and traveling quick.

from joel

john broke a fibula, got caught by the alum pannier.

haven't heard the latest. hope to see him soon.

today from john

Legs feeling better, ankle is another story. Going to doctor for check up on healing. Wife has been awesome (except for lack of sponge baths!). She drove Rv to Mammoth and Twin Lakes. She loaded and unloaded, I was able to drive home. Foot swelled up, needed meds once home

and then later

Ankle is hosed. Surgery in AM for a screw to hold together
Cast coming, 6 weeks of fun.
