Factory saddle bag mount removal?

My F700 came with the factory saddle bag mounts. I'm trying to figure out what's involved in getting the lower frame/railing removed - the one that's below the seat. I see there are torx screws on the ends, but the bar is also attached somewhere all the way in the back, behind the seat, under the brake light. Do I have to take the whole rear end of the bike / brake light assembly apart to uninstall this mount?

I'll look when I get home. It seems like it's an involved process, but it's really not.

Did you check UNDER the bike, above the rear wheel? They might be exposed.

You certainly don't have to remove the tail light. I just can't remember the steps, even though I just did this a few months ago.

You will have to drop the muffler mount to remove.

Yeah, I did. It looked somewhat enigmatic as I couldn't see any bolts/screws there, so I figured I'd ask on here.

I was hoping to find the install instructions for the factory saddle bag mounts, as that would surely explain what I need, but so far came up empty handed.

Thanks!

It's not so bad. It's been awhile so it may not be exact.

Remove:
seat
Upper grab rail
two torx screws holding that rear upper trim piece on with the bmw logo, pull forward to remove

Then you should see the two bolts that mount from the back to the front on the rear cross piece of the frame. Take those out and the bar will drop down. Should be obvious once you get that top trim piece off.

Would removing this lower railing prevent me from being able to mount the BMW small sport softbag on the seat? Planning to get this bag at some point and am not exactly sure what it mounts to...
