anyone tried to move the stock muffler further in?

Anyone have experience with this? Trying to move the stock muffler further towards the mid-line, to accommodate symmetrical panniers?

I think people just move it down (low mount) to accomplish this. Not sure if that's only for an 1150, or all the GS's though.

I have a secret plan that is still a year or so from fruition. I want to remove the muffler from my 1150 and have a custom exhaust pipe made that will exit just past the left rear turn signal. This will allow me to keep the deep water crossing capabilities (hey, a guy's gotta dream), but also run the Zega dual 41-liter panniers.

Of course, removing the muffler accomplishes the same thing if you don't plan to do water crossings.

not down but in...

I've already got a Leo Vince muffler and a Metal Mule rack, which will allow me to mount symmetrical panniers, with the muffler in normal height, but I wanted to use the stock muffler if at all possible (less noise and vibration)

I moved my muffler on my 1150GS in about 3/16" using some washers to gain a little more clearance from my left Jesse bag and am happy with the results.

Plenty of people just simply remove the muffler on their 1150 and found the cat kept the bike quiet enough. Maybe you can do the same with the 1200.

I have used the Jesse lowering kit and it works perfect. The kit comes with 2 parts- One a small Stainless steel pipe with a wider angle bend that needs to be fixed between the muffler and the cat chamber and the Second part is the longer bracket to secure the muffler to the bike frame (circle marked in the below pic). Just that for rear wheel removal you have to only slightly loosen the bolt of the muffler mount to the bike frame (in the shown circle).

Not lowering, but median'ing

What I want to do is move the muffler more medial, not down..

I was thinking that perhaps if I cut the pipe ½ inch before the muffler, then take out a bit on the inner sider of the pipe and re-weld it back on, that should change the angle of the muffler to become more parallel with the mid-line of the bike.

Not sure what you mean about "more medial" but take a look at these: http://advrider.com/forums/showthrea...ighlight=jesse post #s 15 & 59. They are aimed it moving the pipe inboard, towards the wheel.
