My take..
The guy with the 848 had watched a few too many Mulholland crash videos.

He was terrified of crashing at the same exact spot others had so many times.

He braked hard right before it, then went into the other lane to avoid it.

New tires? In the video you can hear people saying the 848's got 1,000 miles on it. I'm thinking that's probably enough to get the tires scrubbed in.
