Help me figure this out !Problems in New Mexico

Two days ago I rode into Vegas and over heated he 990 for the first time ever. I made a few adjustment with airflow but the FI was flashing a 12 code meaning there was a fault in my temp sensor. An hour into my ride today all was great with no issues and no codes flashing. A perfectly running 990 all the way to Albuquerque. We stop for dinner maybe a half hour, get back on the bike to go to a hotel (1mile)and when we check in and go back out to the bike it says fuck you I'm done push me! Wtf? I get it started but the dash lights up same 12 fi code, full temp bars flashing and the temp light flashing.

Fuel pump?
Temp sensor over riding the efi some how?

What's going on here?? Any ktm dealers out here? Do I need to call Scuderia back home to send me some parts overnight??

Thank you!!!
Sean

Hey, Dogster....I know this is a stupid question, but have you burped the cooling system on this beast in the last ever-so-how-long or after any cooling sys components were R&R'd?

Seems as the temp at the sensor is going up or something is fooling the sensor into thinking its hotter than it really is.(you already know this) just re-stating the obvious.

I was thinking of the event you described the other day when you ate then checked into the hotel. Nearly any vehicle will, at shut down, get hotter then cool down. But not normally to the extreme you describe. I wonder what the head and block temps would have been if you'd been able to shoot them with a IR thermometer at that instant? One clue at the scene of the crime.......

Good luck and laters.....

Hey Dogtown - The dealer up here in Santa Fe (SF Motorsports) does carry the full KTM line now, so they might be able to help you with parts if you need anything. Their number is 505-438-1888 if you need it. They're only about 2.5 miles off I-25, too.

Good luck!

I have been totally ignoring the burping thing cause I haven't messed with the cooling system in 20,000 miles. Do you think that i can develop an air bubble that needs to be burped?

I'm in doubt, but nearly anything is possible, right? Simple stuff first, right? I know you need a solid fix on this so you can continue your trip with some peace of mind.

if it is intermittent then probably electrical related , so if it cruised to albturkey with no issues and similar ambient air temps then probably not an air buble

Hey, Dogtown....have a good friend in Santa Fe who I've checked with. He says if you need a place to wrench for a night his place would be cool. His drive way is at an angle good for burbing the coolant system. Sending PM.

Some of the 2010 Husabergs had issues with over heated fuel pumps. They would not pump for a while. You might try to lesson to your fuel pump before you start the bike. Just turn the key on. and see if you can hear it pump. Then when you are having problems lesson for it again. If it's not pumping you have a Fuel pump problem.
I've heard of more than one 950 over heating in the desert. It's hot out there.

Ok I'm out of the race! Got into Santa fe and decided to hit the ktm dealer there. I pulled in the lot turned the bike off and it spewed rad fluid all over! Ran fine there but not happy once we stopped. The shop had no parts, no mechanic and where not keen on me working on the bike there... Balls!!! Got back on the bike and limped back 60 miles to albuquerque to a shop with a ktm mechanic. Ran normal all the way back. Wtf!!!! It's in the shop and im in Santa fe checking into a hotel

Sorry dude. That KTM dealer in SF has been a real bad deal for a long time. Your probbly better off if they didn't work on it.

Yea! They sure have a lot of bikes and atvs in there to sell, but if they need service or you need a part good luck! Everything special order! Might as well shop online. That and the parts guy was absolutely worthless looking up anything for me.

The sales guy told me he would give me a good trade in on my bike if I bought a new one from him today! I'm pretty sure he was serious! I just looked at him and shook my head no thanks!
