Happy new year Gene and Neda,

I'm very glad you made it out it the jungle alive after such a daunting hike in the dark. Must have been such a educational experience observing how the hippy natives live. Keep up this incredible journey...oh and btw you guys aren't missing much back here in Toronto, just the Rob Ford circus continues and a big ice storm that glazed over everything just in time for Christmas.

I heard your concern about weight & size over a mosquito net.
Here is the one I use it's the Mombasa Defender Mosquito Net, packs small and is only 7oz they run about $20. Thanks for your ongoing RR and Have a Great safe 2014
Several others on e bay.

Thanks for the RR Gene and Neda.
Reading this report is one of my favorite ways to get away from this abominable cold spell.
Have fun, be safe and all the best for 2014.

It was our own fault. We keep taking advice at face value when we should know better and do our own research. We tend to take our time and dawdle as well, so we have to remember to multiply all the local time estimates by 1.5-2x.

I heard about the ice storm. My parents in Toronto had to evacuate the igloo when the power failed over Christmas. All the seal blubber they had stored in the freezer went bad and had to be fed to the huskies.

If Neda & yourself ever make it down here plan appropriately.
Our summer or wet season is not recommended for outback travel.
Heat, cyclones, etc ... not fun on a bike.

Try autumn, starting in Tasmania & working your way North for winter.
Winter up north is still T-shirt weather during the day, bloody cold at night though.

Hi Gene and Neda,

Where are you now? It's been two weeks since I had the pleasure of your company at Christmas Dinner in Medellin. That was such a fun night. So many ADVfolks attending. It was especially nice meeting you guys. Hopefully you are travelling slow. My shoulder has healed and I finally got my bike out of Medellin transito prison today. Heading south to Ecuador soon. Hope to see you two down the road.

I see that Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos was flown out of the Galapagos by the Ecuadorian air force with acute kidney stone problems yesterday, so I will assume you took his place on the luxury yacht unless I hear different.

Your ADVpal,
Tio Juan

Just finished reading this report. Dunno how I missed it before. Easily one of the best I've read on this site. You two are an inspiration!
