After I bought my second BMW R100 Paris/Dakar (because I kept whining to the wifey about selling the first one ) I had in my sig line "I promise to never sell this one"

Then I bought a 950 SE

Well........now the PD is gone and a 2004 950 Adventure keeps the SE company in the garage

You know what? I ride. I ride every day. I don't get attached to my bikes, they're just bikes. I've owned almost everything. Maybe even 2 of everything there is to ride. I really like my 950SM, but I also really like my Ducati S4. Right at the moment, I don't want anything else, but that can change in a minute, you know, short attention span and all.

Next? I don't know, I've only owned this 950 for about a month, but we'll see what way the wind blows. Multistrada 1200S? I rode one, big time fun, pulls the front off in third gear, makes you ride even more like an idiot than my 950 does. Maybe another CT-70? That's always a possibility.

But, like I said, I don't get attached, there's always another obsession waiting just down the road.

Yes! She didn't really know the extent of the motorcycle thing. She knew I had bikes. She didn't know I buy another one, a couple of times a year.

And it's been 8 years, and things are going well.

A good deal on a 690R might make me sell the 950....then again, i just bought a second sets of wheels to go 19"/17" and i think i might fall in love with bike, again.

1) must fund divorce with wife (no joke)
2) must help fund wedding for daughter (ironic, eh!)
3) working harder for less money in these economic times is not helping.(at least I'm working!!!!)
4) every time I nestle into the Duc it makes the corners of my mouth curl upwards..awesome bike!!'"

Albeit for me to say this, but... those do not sound like problems to me. More like answers to questions you have yet to ask yourself.

1) Why worry about the divorce, want it done inexpensively, there is the interweb you know, use the justice of the peace to shuffle the paper work through the court system. Work it out yourselves.... If not, fuck the bitch as the relationship cannot really get any worse, can it??? Nah, not likely.... Fuck it, make her pay her half!!!! Me thinks it's dumb to fork out 100% of the money for a problem that two parties are involved in.

2) Have a heart to heart with said daughter and try to talk her out of a large shit mess of a wedding, or the whole thing altogether. Let her see the benefits of remaining single, remind her, you don't need a wedding to be true and exclusive. People have been together for years, with kids, without that piece of toilet paper. If that wont work and she is stubbornly set in her mind this is the path she wants to go down. Help fund wedding by chatting with the new family and spring for the justice of the peace. Explaining the the new family, 'look at the divorce rates in the states (if you are in the states that is... but I'll bet divorce in western cultures as a whole is not all too uncommon)'. They are likely to get divorced also, (almost willing to bet the new family has also divorced as yours has) most westerners like their instant gratification you know. Who wants to work it out, that may take months or longer, heck maybe a year. Why spend the time or energy huh??? Oh and remind her to fund her own divorce....LOL

3) Work your ass off for the next several months, figure out the living expenses on the Way cheap. Hell, you're getting a divorce, you can sleep anywhere... No need (actually stupid, IMO) to fund a house she is going to sleep in, sell it!!! Again, work your ass off for several months and stow it away.

4) A Ducati may curl the mouth upwards. But a 990 would do it better and longer and get you further down the road....

I guess where I am going with this and not trying to be rude or offend, but fuck man, looks like your life just turned into one hell of a GREAT reason to buy that 990. Sell off your shit, take a helluva road trip, maybe a year +, figure out where you're going and what is in store for your future. Take the leap!
No offense taken... actually appreciate the honesty... Rode trip in the near future. the main point is the 990 is my next bike and like above poster I do tend to switch bikes around like my underwear. The Ducati being the longest owned, a BMW r1150gs being the shortest and the SM610 surprising me that I haven't got a ticket on it yet. An RS50 with an 80cc kit making me grin big. All two wheels move me but some more then others and we are not talking speedo readings here.

What would it take?

Financial insolvency or incapacitation.

Don't misunderstand, I'm not saying a better bike can't be built, I'm saying no company is likely to build it. Compromise is the name of the production game.
I have to agree, this is the way i see it .I think the 950 rallye was built with one intent, to win dakar . KTM happened to build this at a piont in time when everything biking was also very good , a pinnicale for mechanical engineering and Dakar capacity rules.
Because of this culmination it is hard to see a manufacturer go out of their way to build a bike similar to a hard edge dirt bias bike the 950 is.

A bike that can do everything my 950 does, and . . .

get 45 - 50 mpg,

require less maintenance time from me,

have a wider dealer network,

and a loyal following on ADV!

As far as I'm concerned everything a bike like that Duc can do, my Adv can also do, to the level of my desire to do them.

Then there's the laundry list of things my 950 can also do that the Duc would shit its pantalones over.

I have owned many many bikes in my life time. The SE is a keeper simple because I WANT to ride it. Every other bike that has shared the garage with it has sat more because of it. No it is not the greatest street bike but throw the big ole Pelicans on it and it is the perfect, commuter, grocery getter, get the fook out of towner, and rips in the dirt.

Until someone actually makes a better SE then maybe, be even then it would require a lot of thought.

I had 2 roadbikes, r6 that i sold for a superduke R and a superduke R that i sold for nothing. Because i was terribly bored with riding on the public roads...it is just boring as hell.
Going from raod to pavement on a big adventure bike is something else, it's allot of fun to ride and it does not steer like a moped like most roadbikes do.

A desmo is an amazing machine but it's not realy useable on the public roads.... Just like any supersport for that matter. I don't see why people love to ride them on the road. The only thing i can think of is showing off, it's actually a reason for allot of people to ride. I had everything else accept for a 1000cc sportsbike. And a 1000cc SS on the road is like riding the adventure over a motorcross track. It works but you can't haul ass -> pointless.

No way i am trading for someting else, allroad is the only logical and fun choice for me. So the adventure is perfect! :)
