Monaro Highway, Canberra to Cooma
Greetings people's. just got back from an overnighter to the coast on the road bike. Saw 4 HWY/Patrol cars & bikes between Canberra & Cooma this morning. If your in the area watch out.
they'll probably be hitting it over the next couple of weeks Cheers DD

I've been travelling that road for the last 50 odd years. Its unsual in the last 20 not to see at least one any time of day, and more or less guaranteed in daylight. Friday night ski season and watch out.....
Use to be a fun road in the 60s and 70s then they straightened it out. The markers used for record attempts used to be from the Queanbeyan turnoff at Hume to the 60 kph sign at Cooma opposite the SMA office. I recall running out of fuel right on the egde of Cooma one afternoon having filled up the Z1B at Queanbeyan. Would have been a very low 40, maybe a 39. |

Commiserations... that's a section of road that I try to avoid at all costs. Not because of the Police, necessarily, but I just find it so boring...

I hear you Baz. When I first moved to Canberra in '85 I used to go back up to Dubbo to see friends. Remember one trip I did Northbourne ave to Cowra in 1 1/2 hrs. wouldnt have much chance of getting away with that now! The Boorowa road gets hit by Yass, Young & Cowra Hwp.

And the Cops (not that I speed, but I just hate the jerks from Cooma hwy patrol. The town cops seem OK but.). And, particularly, all the drongoes heading home after their holidaze, doing their insane overtaking moves with their caravans, big f*ck-off boats, and 4WD's to save 12 seconds over the 100 k's.

I remember that bit of road well (had a GF in Bungendore in the late 60's
) pity it's been straightened.I always use backroads/streets nowadays not so much so as I can speed more so I can concentrate on the road ahead rather than looking a dial all the time. Our great Country is broke........get used to any form of revenue raising.
