Now about that statement you made just a couple days before you headed out on this ride.....you know the statement, the one about slowing down.

Don't make me wait to long for the next installment.
I have no recognition of that said conversation..... ........... It was Curtis's fault

Been out working on Moya seems to be a few loose and dirty parts to attend to. I need to go over more video.

Intermission

Here enjoy this for a spell...

One more for good measure............................ it takes time to go through video and edit

Had numerous errands and had to work on the bikes, so now back to the tale.

So where was I ...... OH yea:

As I had mentioned we had a great ride to the Ceders and while waiting for everyone to roll in I told Curtis I was heading on out; all you have to do is ride 250 to 255 and take it I'll meet you at Kelly WC.

Now remember I mentioned fuel conversation earlier.

I took off in the afternoon heat not really thinking more or less daydreaming when I blew by 255.... humm.... glanced at my GPS and the purple line showed me on track (that's what you get for putting to much faith in technology; I let it think for me) AnyHoo, the brevity of this tale, I rode some 30 ish miles to the intersection waited a bit, snacked and decided to head back to look for them. A mile or so from 255 I met a guy on a atv, he infromed me a group of cycles went up 255 about 30 to 45 minutes ago..... epiphany ............... Nothing to do but go catch-m and off I go not so conservatively. Reach Kelly WC, no bikes so I cross the bridge hitting 581 and my low fuel light comes on.... Oh Great! just keep going, why sure is beautiful up here.

About half way through I'm getting nervous so I stop to pour in my 1 gallon of spare gas

I head on out and just before I get to Cayuse Junction my light comes on again....... You gotta be kidding me..... I'm so

Figured nothing to do but on going a few miles later while on the Lolo Trail (BTW you really should ride this trail is great)

My bungo it starting to tighten up now an I spy a road that says highway12, 10 miles, it's 566; OH What the Hell! I figure I have a better chance next to a highway than up here, so I kill the motor and coast 10 miles down. What a fun road.

So now I hit highway 12, I figured they all went to the evening rendezvous in Lowell, so off I go I see the sign that says "Lowell 47 miles....... yup I'm pretty much Nothing to do but ride tills she quits....... I spy another information sign Lowell 17 miles I might actually make it. 10 minutes or so later dead silence...... well that's it folks....... I find a safe landing spot and dead stick in; it's now 7:40 PM. For the Record I went 54 miles with the fuel light on before flame out

I pulled out the chair waved my gas can at passing vehicles well into the dark. After about two hours I sorta wonder where's a cop when you really need one, I bet if I was speeding I'd find one

Wasn't worried had food water and figured someone was going to call search and rescue so a cop will come by eventually. I even had my retort ready.

Cop: You the ones who's lost

Me: no I'm not lost, I know exactly where I am.

But the devine stars were in my favor as the group, my group had headed east in search of fuel an food and found me on the road around 11:15 PM Steve gave me his gallon of gas fired up and to Lowell, 9 miles away.

Finally got the tent up went to bed hungry, what a day, it was an adventure.

OH, and one more thing my Zumo went kaput on the way down 566 so now no GPS

Well there Bgunn, you have to take into consideration the light was on the ignition was turned off while coasting the 10 miles ( I bet that is hard for some folks to fathom) off the ridge.. great dirt road So, in reality 44 miles till bone dry.

And Yes! I was gentle on the throttle; steady speed.

Hey there DCP, Thanks. Yes the Lolo is fantastic There are periodic kiosks along the trail with excerpts (but you know that :wink) of Lewis and Clark's journal about their thoughts on on the days events right were you are.

Hang in there I have a few more days but need to attend to other chores sorta speak.

Day 3..

Woke up pretty groggy, still tired and my stomach was a talkin to me (been 24 hours) I packed up looked over and Curtis our early bird was already packing too. We were chatting a bit about last nights debacle when...........

.... he realized he's pack his M/C key in one of his tents attached pouches... it really was much more comical to watch

He was happy

I rolled over to the Cougar Store to fill up. So remember I got a gallon last night rode 9 miles this morning I topped off Moya

My talk is 5.15 gallons according to the manual

Next I went next door to the restaurant, entered and announced I was really hungry , the retort I received was... " you must be the fella that was lost last night I see they found" news travels fast out here. I fired back.. " I was not lost, I knew exactly where I was" feed me!

The crew followed suit we feasted and off we went

She Selway is a beautiful river to amble along

What a goof ball

Great ride up the 443 but I miss the way it use to be.. an atv trail that was rutted, rocky, washed out spots, tight twists, etc that progress; all in all still fun.

Rolled into Elk City early about 10 am or so

I don't remember the road being paved this far out

As I rolled in I had to stop and get a shot of this old M60 slick, memories, I rode, worked on, shot and cursed this thing in my youth.

Here comes Bill Yaming it up

OH, I was told this is what I missed while chasing after the crew

We all kicked back to chill out for a bit while Larry cleaned his XR's air filter.. "Bob's pictures"

BOB

After Elk City it's off the the Salmon River........ more of day 3 soon

Need to finish up this day. After Elk City had a nice break on the twisty paved highway 14 for 20 or so miles before heading up Hungry ridge to 221

Bob's Pictures

After a little rest we proceeded on to Florance (ghost town) not much there any more other than an old cemetery but the road in and out was fun.

Two years ago this was covered with trees, now there a new fence around it and all the trees have been cut. This is very recent as the trees are stacke just outside the fence.

Matt's Pictures

Dang! I know I'm short, but geez

Tough life up here

OK, enough of Florance time to move out. rode down into the oven and went in to Riggins topped off the rides and headed back out to find a camp.... found one about 12 east along the Salmon river

These guys would prove to be a problem for me; since there was a full moon they were eating apples next to my tent from around 3 am to almost first light

Bob's shots

See all the apples laying around

The Salmon was nice and refreshing to wash the sweat and grim away

Well that's pretty much it for Day 3
