First offroad with disc brakes and hydraulic clutch?

Got a 1978 TT500 but the drum brakes and wire clutch really give me armpump to the extent I'm now selling it :-(

Still want a classic enduro bike...but when did the first ones appear with disc brakes front and hydraulic clutch?

EDIT: Did some googling myself and seems like disc brakes came around 83-84 (?) But when did the hydraulic clutches come?

I have an '82 KTM GS 500 four stroke single that has [came with] a Brembo hydorlic disc on the front. There were some Rokons earlier that had disc at the rear or at both ends.
No idea what was 1st with hydrolic clutch .

I don't know either but you could fit both disk brakes and
Hydraulic clutch to any bike with a little ingenuity.

The 1999 KTM SX bikes had hydro clutch for sure. I'll see about 98 in a minute...

98 should have it too, in 97 only the Jackpiner IIRC. This is the competition bikes, the LC-4 had them later.

Have you considered lengthening the clutch acutation arm 5-10mm. That should decrease effort if there is room. I doubt you will find many/any earlier than the KTMs with hydro clutch.

Just get a new clutch cable, lube it well, and then ride the hell out of it until your arm gets stronger. Mankind did just fine without hydraulic clutches on motorcycles for a good 80 years or so.

I couldn't agree more. I'm on another forum with bikes from the 1970's...............XS650's. Guess what the latest rage is on that site.................yup, changing over from the stock cable operated clutch to a hydraulic line operated clutch.

That is, he switched to FMX and ended up as world champ so turned out well after all

But actually agree that classic bikes should be left as they are and drum brakes and cable is part of it. It's just that have a few buddies that go to these low entrance enduro races for classic bikes having a lot of fun also in the evenings so plan was to join them. Still, will continue with road riding, track days, sumo, mx and enduro, all with modern bikes, so not that it's all bad

The classics are great and still love to ride them.

If you are in need of both classic style with modern convienences, do this. I took some Krylon paint that sticks to plastic and painted my 2002 KTM EXC 520 blue and put some KTM 125 Six Day stickers on it. The average Joe has no clue. Best of both worlds

The replies are worth the trouble:

"I didn't know Penton still made motorcycles"

"That looks awful big for a 125" To which my reply is "It's got a power valve"

"Is that one of them limited edition ones??"

TT sold yesterday, sold to buddy that I know will enjoy it (actually he went straight to classic cross race...first time ever outside tarmac).

Anyway, new plan, or more idea really. A lighter bike with smaller engine with smaller clutch should require less force for braking and clutching.

What are my options from the seventies (pre 1974 will allow me to start in more races but guess late seventies are better bikes)? The races require plates which again require lights, but there are ways around that (just installing lights like on my ex-TT500).

Damn, Too late for you but plenty of cheap options to bolt on a disc front end from mid 80's bikes. Magura do a retrofit hydraulic clutch kit, I had one on my XT.

The actuator fits in the same bracket on the engine where the stock one does. Just measure up the length of travel from the bracket to the clutch actuator arm and order the right kit.

These are good kits for those having troubles with their clutch.
