As far as "higher speeds" , I don't see steady cruising on this bike over about 75mph. It would probably do it, but that isn't what I intend to do with it, and I don't think it would be good at it. If you are going to cruise all day packed down at 85 mph, I think this is the wrong bike. I plan to put it on some long (over 5,000 mile) trips, but the mission profile will be unhurried back roads and a moderate pack load.

Don't have exact #'s, but I seem to remember them being over $1k. My dealer is willing to give a 10% discount on parts orders--wouldn't hurt to ask if yours would do the same. One thing to take note...the Honda rear rack that's required for the Honda top case DOES require some cutting. There are several aftermarket options that do NOT require any cutting...and that's the route I'm going to take, once I figure out what brand of top case I want...decisions decisions...

Same thing it was doing to me. Changing it to a 750 something or another. I would have just kept it, but when it kept changing the VIN I didn't have a warm and fuzzy when she drops it eventually. Looking forward to riding it and farkling it for her.

FWIW, I went the Givi route, a straight bolt-up of semi-custom fittings for the bike. The NC700X requires the 1111FZ Monorack arms and a base plate to fit the top box of your choice. I have an E460 top case so I needed an M5 base plate which I am waiting on to arrive. The Monorack arms and the base plate ran about $170. I do not plan of adding saddlebags but I could later if desired.

Creating a dedicated storage compartment key
On long rides I have already found out I can open the storage compartment to drink some water or grab a snack while riding. The air flow around the bike does not lift open the door when left unlatched but I still did not want to leave it this way. If the door flies open when riding the windblast would probably damage the tether or hinge. There are also times when stopped that I'll want to access the storage compartment or open the gas filler compartment without having to turn off the bike and use the ignition key. I made a key with a knob for this and the key can stay in the lock when I am riding or the bike is out in my garage. This key is not long enough to start the bike.
I started by getting a spare key made. The blank is an Ilco x265, also known as an HD109. This blank is not long enough to turn the ignition switch so a thief could not start the bike. The knob is a standard black plastic cap used on many cleaner or chemical products. When I leave the bike out of sight this key drops into the compartment and is locked away or slips in my jacket with the ignition key. ![]() I cut the key blank down so the completed key knob would fit close to the top of the compartment. ![]() I mixed up some 5 minute epoxy and poured it into the cap and set the key upright. ![]() The key in place. The color of the knob blends in with the cover around the lock.

I ordered the 1111FZ from my Honda dealer. He ordered it direct from Givi. I still was not sure about the base plate so I walked away without ordering a base until I was sure which one fit the E460. On my ST it takes a different base plate. After checking with Givi I ordered the M5 from Twisted Throttle.

![]() There are Monokey cases and Monorack cases. Monokey cases are made for motorcycles and Monorack cases are usually smaller and made lighter for use on scooters although the Monorack Blade is a nice looking big case that would look good on the NC. Monorack bases are not as strong as Monokey bases though. To answer your question ...... I don't know. The 1111FZ is required to fit any Givi top case and a base is required to mount between the FZ and the top case. The base bolts to those flat pieces then the case snaps and locks down on the base. I know the M5 base fits on the FZ arms and I think the M5 fits all current Givi Monokey top cases.

I saw online yesterday... somewhere... a NC700 with a set of black powdercoated TRAX metal panniers. Damn, sweet look and the matte black PC matched the bike perfectly. Think I am gonna go that route. Thoughts? I run TT panniers on my F800GS. Never used Trax, look nice thou?
