GSA service question...time vs milage.

New 1200GSA in June 2012. Nice!
Did break in service around 500 miles in July 2012.
Current miles are around 4250 miles now on July 2, 2013.
Computer clock tells me to service now....the anniversary date.

Question: should I get closer to the 6000 mile service?
Or go ahead and do it early before vacation (+500k miles)
Don't want to ask dealer yet...want independent feed back first.

FYI. No problems with bike. Minimal oil additions...less than 1 pint since
break-in. My 3rd BMW...no mysteries but never owned one of these
high out-put engines before.

thanks.

I'd wait till 6,000mi. The reminder can be set for date or mileage, looks like dealer set it for date. I have my mechanic set it for mileage.

It's my understanding that the additive package is what ages. If it was my choice then I would change it. In my mind servicing is also an opportunity to take closer look at everything and yearly as a minimum is not so often so as to be a burden. Extending the service length is a very small savings, in the big scheme of things anyway.

IMHO, wait for the 6K then do both the 6K and the annual at the same time!

Here is the service schedule: http://www.jimvonbaden.com/Service%20Schedule%20PDF.pdf

It looks like your vacation ride plan will still keep you under the 6k mark. I'd wait till after the vacation and do the 6k & annual when you get back. If you think your vacation ride will push you very far past the 6k do the service work early.

If you are a true Adventurer you will make plans to ride to X (1750) miles away. call the dealer nearest X, schedule an appointment for a service ahead of time, ride to destination. Do a ride report and bitch about the crappy servie or extremely high bill, then come back and start a new thread asking how much everyon on here paid for their 6000 mile service. Thats what I would do.

Do an oil change and take it in closer to 6K. The valves get adjusted at 6K, I would wait.

I doubt they'll need adjusting. I'm at 18,000 and still haven't needed them adjusted. These camhead engines are great.
