That sucks about your bike tip over... But at least the turn signal was the only casualty. Are you going to get a new side stand or cut the one you have? That seems like a real drag... And I was actually wondering about why you pulled to the left. I think your video had you doing that.

We walked back to the bike.

Was the helmet dry? Nope.
Did I get the gasoline smell out? Nope.
Did I get the laundry detergent rinsed out? Nope.

Laundry detergent and gasoline; That's pretty close to the recipe for napalm, right?

So we roll out of Watson Lake after nearly 3 hours with me smelling like napalm.

The bears were plentiful.

We stopped at Liard Hot Springs for a dip.

It was nice to soak in the HOT water.

After about 20 minutes, I realized I haven't been drinking enough water.
Or maybe it was because of the gas fumes I've been huffing.
Whoa! Dizzy!

I managed to drag myself out of the stinky water and stagger over to the bench

The mosquitos were vicious here. Helen took off running at full speed back up the boardwalk to escape.
Me? I just had to stop for a picture in the swamp. My legs were a bloody mess after swatting the mozzies.
I guess the stinky water makes you especially desirable to mosquitos. I caught up with Helen quick.

Here's the photo I paid for with my blood.

Hey! Someone did watch the videos.

Not sure what I'll do yet, but it needs to be shorter. I may take it to a local welder, or send it to CJRacer who can make it adjustable.

Okay, you got me there. The threat is empty, but that's what I used to think about Alaska. Of course, I'd need a guide.

At sunset we stopped in the Mojave Desert.
Helen was happy to be on "vacation".

Wow, you have yourself an incredible woman! Shoot, I even second guess riding in 118F temps, yet we push on! Incredible photography mate!

Day 18 Finale

We avoided all major road hazards.

I was looking forward to riding along Muncho Lake.

A green lake surrounded by mountains.

But it was so damned hazy and warm that I didn't even bother stopping for photos.

Helen practiced high speed photography.

We spooked a little bear out of the river and he sprinted across the road in front of us. Look at his wet footprints!

Helen said this was her view the entire trip,
but I don't think she's that short.

She did finally experiment with different points of view.

We see a billboard for a Subway approaching Fort St. John, but drive all the way through town
without finding it.
We end up at a Boston Pizza, which was the biggest thing in town.

After dinner we checked into a motel. We slept good that night. We were starting to get exhausted.

The Watson Lake fill-up cost us $61.

Day 19: Fort St. John - Hinton

Yesterday was only 386 miles, so we hope for a longer day in the saddle.

I caught Helen trying to sneak a shot to show her girlfriends just
how little room she had. I cheated and scootched forward.

Wobble... Wobble... Wiggle... Don't fall down in front of 80,000 pounds

Just like any normal person would, I had lots of anxiety about the success of this trip. Some of these thoughts were hard to push aside and I think I can see how most normal people may never attempt a journey of this magnitude. The worries ranged from collisions, mechanical failures, unavoidable delays, skyrocketing costs, serious injuries or even death. We stopped again this morning to make an oatmeal breakfast on the Jetboil. I went off into the bushes to take care of business and discovered a reassuring sign that everything on this trip was going to work out. We were going to make it safely home, and our kids were too.

Four Leaf Clover

Today was another hot and hazy day of highway miles, not really good for photos.

We made it to "Mile 0" of the Alaska Highway in Dawson Creek.

It's about time! I was beginning to wonder if these highways had any end.

We found a Y cable at the Wal-Mart in Dawson Creek. Yeah!
For the first time in 10 days, I had music!

It wasn't all good. It was Helen's iPod I was now plugged into.

I quickly developed a signal for her to change the song if it was something I didn't want to hear.

Sometimes, she listened.

It wasn't too bad as some of her music was also stuff I liked,

But I was having Opeth withdrawals.

Deer are afraid of us. Run!

We rode upon an embarrassing situation.

A couple moose enjoying the same mud puddle.

They look embarrased to be caught.

I'm about as bad of a wildlife photographer as a people photographer.
I failed miserably at getting nicer bear and moose photos.

Helen shoots the sunset behind us. It was a nice sunset.

I wanted to stop for photos, but we were racing the darkness, looking for a campground and dodging wildlife.

We failed at finding a campground and ended up paying too much for a motel in Hinton, Alberta.

Day 20: Icefields Parkway

KTM Orange!

Back into the Canadian Rockies!

We did some shopping and had an early lunch in Jasper.
Down the Icefields Parkway!

I remembered the Icefields Parkway from my 2008 trip as one of the most beautiful places on Earth.

It was still just as beautiful, unfortunately it was another very hazy and warm day.

We stop to make the climb up to the Columbia Icefield. I wasn't feeling so well today.
I let Helen carry the camera up while I waited at the bottom.

Columbia Icefield

After the Icefields Parkway we stayed with the 93 and rode through Kootenay National Park.
