Nuvi 550 on a Mirage 2 Fairing?

Even though this is a GPS related question I figured I'd have more success putting it here as it relates directly to mounting on a Mirage 2 fairing on the 800GS.

So, I have a Nuvi 550 with the Garmin Universal cradle/mount for the 5xx.

http://www.gpscity.ca/garmin-nuvi-5x...and-power.html

Great set up however the mount is pretty much flush onto the mirage 2 fairing and as such when you try and use the unlock tab at the top of the cradle it hits the fairing before it moves sufficiently to the rear to all the gps to release.

Anyone else have this set up and can comment? I've pm'd Ian at Britainnia Composites for any guidance as well.

My suggestion is to use some plastic washers to lift the cradle slightly off the fairing surface. You could even use some bits of thick rubber and get some extra vibration absorption.

Hey DD!

Yes exactly what I was going to suggest and what I did with my Ram 60CX cradle on the Mirage 2.

I have two alu. spacers (and longer bolts) giving me the needed clearance to push the locking tab in to remove the 60CX. I would recommend something solid as opposed to rubber though (unless it's really hard) otherwise it may move to much while trying to unlock it. Don't know how much space you need but a trip the hardware store should come up with something.

I don't have any pics specific to my set-up though sorry!

Dave

I came across the same problem with my Zumo 550 as well! Haven't yet got round to working it out to fit it! So greatful for the tips.

Spacers do the job than!

Does anyone else have trouble with killing the battery with the satnav heated grips and other extras drawing power?

Cheers guys!
