Laugh Great stuff...

Kelly, I thought you just about jumped off the side of the mountain when Matt hit the horn.

When you guys popped out onto the road I could almost feel that feeling you're talking about. The thrill of the thing accomplished and the relief that it is done and you made it. What a great feeling!

$120 bucks or so for that thing!!

Great report BTW - Love it.

Hey Kelly

Finally caught up to the Canadian border
Took a long time to get through Utah and Idaho. Brilliant riding and fantastic videos (those take the longest, not enough time to watch at work).

View from his back porch...

I think the Tour of Idaho may be in my future

I'm so happy you found the cone!
I was starting the worry it was going to sit all winter.
(one of you did keep it, right? You just left the note, I hope)

Thanks so much for checking in - love the photo, too.
Salutes and everything!

Wasn't Lockhart a blast?? let me know if you do a ride report!

haha,
I cut a lot of it, but matt was honking his ass off!

Like he lost his brakes or something but he was just messing with me.

Thanks, rider 914!
aw, maybe next time...
Glad you're almost caught up!

hi hobbes, hi chrish4ku!

Okay, you guys - I'm super busy with work today.
No time for a real post right now.
Hopefully, next video will be tonight or tomorrow...

Is it just me, or is ADV super slow right now?
Maybe everyone is in the same boat...

Get back to work, fools!

I've been following the Wans for a while (okay, a week, sheesh) and I've got one question:

Do you like Oatmeal?

If you do, you need this. And assorted Sriracha Memoriabiliatyness.

Day 38: 7/29/12
Mad Radek’s Canadian Lunacy Tour part deux
483 miles

Everyone was up by 8am.
We started off with breakfast...

And some bike work.
Radek woke up to a flat,
so he took the opportunity to straighten his rim.

Here’s our crappy mirror - good as new!

Our BD skid plate looks like it’s still doing its job...

How are the tires doing? Not bad.
1800 miles so far...

Time to roll!

Unfortunately, Lica was having some kind of oil leak.
Even after some fiddling at the man cave,
it seemed to be getting worse.
We stopped at a Canadian Tire (sort of like Home Depot) to check it out...

Turns out he had some stripped bolts on his valve cover.
The oil leak wasn’t going to stop until those were addressed.

It sucked.
Lica was out.
He was really sad, and so were we.

Lica assured us he would get home fine.
We left him there and got on the highway.

Originally, Radek wanted us to do an 18 hour loop.
Now, we were getting such a late start (it was nearly 11am)
we had to cut out some dirt and take some slab...

Radek was pointing at these mountains - that’s where we rode last night!

Oh yeah. I remember passing the water park at the end of the long descent...

This was a cool ferry...

It’s a reaction ferry, meaning the powerful current propels the ferry across.
We enjoyed it. It’s totally silent, and fast (about 5 minutes).

I took video, but I didn’t think anyone would watch it.

if there’s enough interest from the ferry nerds,
the nerd fairy might cut something together and post it.

It’s a pretty small ferry - only 2 cars are allowed at a time.
In this case, it was 1 car and 2 bikes.

Ah, finally some dirt!

And pretty BC views.

The next bits may be slightly out of order.
With 483 miles, I can’t remember exactly where everything goes...
I have some screen shots from Radek’s video and the metadata is all jacked up.
His GoPro thought it was April 2011.

Anyhoo, I’m pretty sure we ate lunch first...

Then, did this section.

Radek said this was tribal land...

It took forever to get through it. Lots of twisty gravel.

I like this action shot with the dog!
He was barking his ass off, but in a playful way.

Now, the dirt was getting even better!
I think it was around 3pm.
Good thing we had taken some of that slab...

These roads were fun and fast.

And, scenic.

We were on our way to China Head Mountain.

Finally, the good stuff!

I thought this video from Radek was the fastest of our 2up stuff.
Again, it was really cool of him to spend so much time filming us.
We tried to get some of him, but he told us to keep going...
Thanks, Radek!

Woo!
Radek said he usually doesn't ride this trail that fast...
I think he enjoyed it.
We sure did!

We were all ready to film him.
He took off like a rocket!
Unfortunately, just as we were chasing after him,
Matt realized we had a flat.

Mother brother!

Eventually, Radek figured out we weren’t following him and came back...
sorry, dude.

At first we thought it was the price to pay for blasting through all those rocks...

But it turned out to be a rusty nail.

Monkey fighter!

Luckily, it didn’t take long to fix the flat...

And we were back on the trail...

China Head, here we come!

Awesome!!!!!!

I was in BC last July riding and went over China Head. Isn't it spectacular.

This is too cool following along the RR and seeing your pics of a place I have just ridden. I can't wait to hear you opinion/experience of the downhill into the deepest creek crossing. That one was very, very challenging on a 690 by myself, can't even imagine it two up on the 950. I kept thinking, after, of going down it on the 950 and if I would even want to do it or not, solo.

You guys are awesome. My wife and I have been following your RR. We have a 990 Adv also and 70% of my time on the bike I have my favorite pillion on the back. We just started camping with the bike this fall and have 5 overnight trips so far. She sees the stuff you ride and says "I don't want to do anything that rough", and "I don't want to go that fast". She looks at my pictures from my last trip to Colorado and says "Can we do that together? How about that trail?" Where last year she would say "you can ride I'll wait for you at the hotel".

I wish I had BigWans skills on and off the bike. Valve check? No problem, how about two? I have my first one coming up and keep thinking maybe I should take it in and let the dealer do it. But I am so cheap and I need to learn myself.

Keep up the good RR.

Todd
