Hepco-Becker topbox: lock annoyance
Interested to see if my experience with the 52 L top box is normal for H-B, or if I have a dud. I find the lock annoying every time I use it.
I expected that I could open-close the latch, and use the key only to lock it in the closed position. Instead what I find is this:
1. From locked, use key to unlock, but have to remove the key to unlatch (otherwise key fowls the box and I can't unlatch it).
2. Remove key, unlatch very firmly, to the point where the lever starts to bend, which may or may not be enough. If not enough, give the lid of the box a thump.
3. From open, push the latch down firmly, then while holding it closed with one hand, insert the key and lock it with the other. It will not stay closed at all unless locked.
I also find that the box is such a tight fit on the slide rail that I cannot fit/remove the box by hand.
This is not the experience I expected with a box that cost $500+. Would appreciate hearing experiences of others using large size H-B top boxes.

I have Gobi side boxes but the locks can be opened and closed without the key. They stay closed without the key. The key only locks them - as you would expect.
Sounds like you got a problem one.
