Nice ride Questor! Great pix too. Interesting to read your comment on soft luggage. Been thinking along that line myself.

Uh-oh, I don't think we're in CT anymore Toto.

Look at this... it goes on forever!

Q: Hope you are happy having gotten outta this tax hell. I'm recently retired and looking for somewhere to relocate. Riding is a big consideration and it looks like your area has it in spades. How long is the winter though? Great RR. Say hello to MAG for me.

Nice! That ride looks so peaceful being out there with no one around for mile. Pure heaven. Thanks for sharing.

Hello Mr. Rocket.

The winters are long and harsh here.
Were up at around 5000 feet elevation, and quite north.
(It's like living on top of Mount Washington when the weather gets bad.)
So the winters are cold, and the days are short.
In the picture, did you notice the tall poles along the roadside?
That's how much snow we get here.
Some areas are only accessible a couple of months of the year.
When the sign says, "Road Closed", they mean it.
If you like snowmobiling, this is paradise.

Also note, humans are not the top of the food chain around here.
Between the Grizzly Bears, black bears, brown bears, and the Wolves, which can grow to about 200 pounds, it pays to be aware of your surroundings and be armed. Camping is an adventure, not recreation. Especially if you like bacon.

We tend to get a lot of wind as well.
And, we're in the middle of the worlds largest super caldera known as Yellowstone. When that supereruption happens erupts... well, nobody in the surrounding four states will live to tell about it.
It will make the Krackatoa eruption seem modest.
Did you know that the ground in Yellowstone is rising about 1" a year?
For more information:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yellowstone_Caldera

Aside from that, the four months of summer we get here are heaven.
Come on out and visit. I'd love to show you around.
Q~

Just one more great RR Questor

I have a dumb question: not to jinx you, but do you ever worry about crashing while riding alone out in the middle of nowhere? I did a little of that kind of thing last summer and I got a little spooked. Everything turned out just fine, but a minor problem could have developed into a big one when in that kind of isolation.

..Maybe it was my inexperience and a case of over-thinking.

I did know that stuff about Yellowstone caldera. Good thing is, you'll be dead while we are starving to death slowly because we can't grow any food.

If I get out that way, I will look you up. thanks

I think about that every time I ride...
It's just a risk you have to take.
I try to be careful and be prepared for any contingencies.

But I'm not, not going to ride.

This is life.
This is the one you get.
Don't waste it, but don't be stupid.

Great ride. I really want to get down there and do some exploring---after running back and forth to St Anthony dunes for the last 18 years I've wanted to get out into some of those badlands!
