I had mine setup so I did not need the extra straps, till second last day when I did not clip in one of the buckles properly, of course leading to a fail. So yes, fail safe straps are a good thing considering how much fun the erosion mounds are

Out of interest, are the two photos from Murray Sunset NP

Arriving in Bris tomorrow

Cant wait to get started . Just using this QLD 4 day ride as a shake down for the big one. There are more riders entered than the condo 750 so it should be a blast. Got sent some photos today which showed some of the course. Is anyone else going to Johns shed tomorrow to get the course loaded?

Can't, as I'm working away.

Andy, what tyres did you use for the APC, Dunlop 606's etc?

Michelin Starcross MH3 80/100-21 on the front, the knobs don't mushroom and are wider spaced than the HP so better in all terrains and last real well. On the rear I used the Motoz Tractionator Desert HT140/80-18. I planned my tyre changes at Wodonga on our loop whereas others planned for Hawker. I thought the Tractionator may get me all the way around but it was toast at Hawker, must have been a little too enthusiastic. The front could have made it all the way around if I was a tight arse but changed it at Wodonga as I had one waiting for me there. You may get all the way around on a Dunlop Rally Raid Rear but you won't have as much fun. Motoz is good in the dirt but slippy on wet tarmac. I had planned the run home from Wodonga to be on a Dunlop 606 so I had best grip through the NSW forestry but they couldn't get me one so I used a Pirelli MT 21, it was toast by Brisbane. Probably best to stick with the Motoz on the rear and change halfway. Book your tyres early as Motoz only import so many and they run out at Rally time usually. Dave stocks them at Tyres 4 Bikes at Albion Brissy. They are bulletproof, I had no punctures running Ultra heavy duty tubes as well.

Similar to Andy, but a bit different, I ran a Bridgestone ED11(?) Gritty Enduro on the front for the first half and that was changed at Wodonga for a Michy MH3. Both are good tyres, but I prefer the MH3. I also planned to change rear and front at Wodonga, but the Motoz Desert HT rear was gone at Hawker, so I fitted a Dunlop 606 that they happened to have there, and that made it home to Brisbane, but was totally toasted by then.

Would recommend the Motoz and MH3 combo for bikes like the 690, etc

Heading out Tues/Wed 16/17 to pre-ride Wodonga-Dargo-Jindy sections of easy and hard tracks with JH. Woodsie couldnt make it nor could Beefa or Huffy (who I believe helped with a lot of the route through this section).

Beats working!

Will report back later next week.

Cant do the complete rally this year due to other committments but may do the first few days with local mates who are doing the full course.

Running heated grips is like warming your hands next to a gentle campfire - just magic when the rest of you is frozen solid and tired. Perfect for long distance rides during inclement weather. Bit of music in the helmet and life doesn't get much better.

+1 heated grips, even used them to dry out my gloves after rain.

Gday fellas, i have just come back from condo 750 (My first and not the last). I had the sheer pleasure of meeting John Hudson , who you probably all know , what a hard nut. He rode that standard 990 with a mt 21 on the front and a tractionator on the rear and finished the condo in 23rd. Just thoght id say that its great to see an event like the APC be organised by a bloke that loves riding hard and doing it tuff!! If ya ha'vnt done the Condo, get yr arse out there next year, it's a HOOT.

Cheers.

On some days I found I could wear my single layer gloves with the heated grips meaning better feel on controls, but nothing helps when you do early morning start out of Crookwell, just too freekin cold, makes for fond memories thou

That morning I was glad I invested in a pinloc visor for the shoei as I was riding visor down blowing inside my helmet to stop my face freezing whilst Tony was having to ride with his visor up to stop the fogging.

Also remember Tony going off to buy us two thermal balaclavas whilst I did my tyre change at Wodonga, faaark it was cold.
