I assumed the 908 rally raids would be the tire of choice for any 18" rear?
A mate had a mefo explorer on the rear and it outdone the Dunlop on my bike through the ranges.
I could buy 3 sets of Motoz Tractionators for the same price of 1 rally raid and they are a very similar feeling tire.

I get 4000 Kay's out if them easily and only 5000 out of a rally raid.

That is true grasshopper, but when you have "corner " fever it is easy to get caught up in the midst of burgers and beers .
What was interesting was the undeniable comradeship that quickly turned into mateship that I could feel when you watched me unload my backpack and turn it inside out scurry through the 11 different pockets on my jacket the 4 on pants the 3 on my wallett then procceded to walk around in circles muttering , how you watched the beads of sweat turn into rivers of salty water once the ladies at Inaminicka said we are closing hurry up , then and only then ,did you say " here Daz use my credit card". Wow thanks Wez your so generous, hey you bank at the same bank as me....... why you little &*(#$# .

Got you back though, when you thought I was BMW Autsralia on the phone offering you a new TTR 250 to continue on when the Panzer died at Birdsville. good old mateship.

You in for 2013 or is it Dakar for you next year?

Dakar, for me next year.
Finished my tyre changing course during the APC with a legendary tyre changer called DAZ. Top bloke. Would stop several times a day just to show me how to change a tube. This bloke would do anything to get a puncture just so he could show me how it is done. ( one day he showed me 4 times) I think I finally got it after the 15th time.
Now I'm just waiting on a call from BMW regarding the " unstoppable " F800 and it's Dakar for me.

Planning on doing 4 to 5 thousand K's in the coming months in prep rides mainly in the Vic high country when the rivers drop a bit and tracks reopen. I want to give the bike and some new gear a good test out. Just learning how to opperate gps, been on one ride with it and like it alot.

mouse tube or UHD tube

2 friends and myself are all paid and are leaving from Daybro QLD on KTM 690,s

My questions are:
  1. Would anyone recomend the mouse tube over the the UHD tubes for the rally
  2. Does anyone know where to get centre stands for a KTM 690?
  3. Need advice on finding a wireless PTT to the helmet? Would like the UHF mounted behind faring and a wired cable to the handlebar mounted PTT, then sent wirelessly to your mic and speakers in the helmet.
  4. Also, i'm looking for titanium bolts for the subframe as they are prone to snapping, does anyone know where i could buy some?
Any other advice from last years participants would be appreciated on what to bring and what not to bring (don't want to be over packed).

can't wait... 224 days 12 hrs 19 min to go and counting.....

Cheers

I prepped a brand new 690R for last years APC, see the build thread starting here.

I always use UHD tubes and had no punctures, just run at the recommended pressures in the Rally briefing notes.
Rally Raid UK do all the bits you mention and they feature in my build as I fitted full Rally Raid Kit.
I am not a lover of bluetooth as I tried it and it was a pain charging batteries, Autocom Hardwired is bullet proof, you can buy through this guy:

Read my ride report for extra info on the 690 as the weapon of choice for the rally.

You can come to my place if you need any more info and check the bike out if you want.

You will only know the start points, which should be up on their website in the briefing doc for the rally, this gives a general idea of the loop. You only get the route about 3 weeks before the start to ensure no changes happen that bugger up the route. The APC guys do a last preride about 6 weeks prior to the rally and make any last minute adjustments before posting out the GPS track and maps with the route and wet weather diversions etc notated. At this point they also give a list of pubs and servos along the route.

Fb 49 I would back up Andy's advice but aswell we used senna blue tooth and they were great and really improved the ride. They are clearer than talk accross radios. The batterys last for the long day and if you plug them in at night alls good. You can charge them on the run also. That said they could be fiddly at times to connect up. We had the radio hubs to connect to UHF but didn't use them mostly because we didn't put he time into setting up.
