I always use UHD tubes and had no punctures, just run at the recommended pressures in the Rally briefing notes.
Rally Raid UK do all the bits you mention and they feature in my build as I fitted full Rally Raid Kit.
I am not a lover of bluetooth as I tried it and it was a pain charging batteries, Autocom Hardwired is bullet proof, you can buy through this guy:

Read my ride report for extra info on the 690 as the weapon of choice for the rally.

You can come to my place if you need any more info and check the bike out if you want.

Thanks Andy, I already have your ride report saved in favorites.

might just take you up on that offer closer to the time..

Cheers

Just set up the Garmin Montana in my dash and am very impressed so far, would be ideal for the rally if you have not settled on a GPS yet. May see you on a ride anyway as there are normally plenty going on around Noosa area.

I have a Garmin gpsmap76Csx would it be able to be used for the rally. Has anyone done the 4 day events?
I have an Aprilia Pegaso 650 and a DRZ400. Which would be the best choice. Aprilia is quite a capable bike but the DR is excellent in the tight stuff.

Mickmo,
I have a garmin 60csx which i will be using for the rally. I would assume they would be pretty similar. The only trouble i can see is the small screen size but i haven't had any problems riding with mine so far.

At the moment i'm sitting in Capella about 30 min from you. Currently working at Kestrel Mine Extention FIFO...
Cheers
Craig

Yep, 14/7 at the moment.
My bike (ktm 530exc 2008) is all crated up at the moment because i'm swaping it for another guys ktm 690 R 2010 from another forum, so no riding till i get my new bike. 690 is more suited to the APC rally. You going on the rally next year? if so, where you taking off from?

222 days 11hrs 06m to go.......

2013 APC Rally

Hi all,
Im planning on doing the 2013 rally. I read the ride report in Trailzone and it sounds like a great event. As a rally newbie, has anyone thats done the event got any advice? Anyone else got plans to go?

Hi Mick - I rode a 690 in the APC this year, and as you know I have a Peg Trail as well. I would say the Peg would be good for 80%, but would struggle in the sand and the rougher stuff compared to the DR400. However I am sure I would have finished the rally no worries on the Peg. But I would suggest that if you choose the Peg, having a 21/18 wheel set with UHD tubes and serious knobbies would make it much better in the dirt. Of course I just happen to have a set for the Peg made by JTR in Brisbane if you are interested That is unless my son decides to buy my Peg and wheels, which he is considering.

I'll be riding the 990 and i hate sand.
I'm taking the 990 to Stockton NSW to ride sand until I get completely comfortable with it.

I have meant to ask you how the 21" wheel goes with the fork brace and low guard?
That's the only reason I haven't done it already.

I made a couple of aluminium pieces to raise the guard/brace up by 25mm, so it has good clearance. Was originally intended as a stop-gap till I made some better ones, but they are still there

The 21 with a lowish profile knobbie, like a Mitas EO7, just fits with the std guard bracket, but the raised guard is better.
