We rode through the park a week ago and I would have to say the carnage was not as bad as I had expected. Came in through the north gate, off of 44. We saw about 2 miles of blackened pines, mostly on the left hand side of the road. You could see the path of the fire winding up over the mountains to toward the lookout. But from the tourist point of view, it appeared to be a small burn. Huh, didn't feel that way when we were sucking in the smoke for almost two months!

Not any less of a fire, but from your photo's it looks like the fire burned mostly ground cover. Hard to tell from a few photo's I know. Couple months ago I rode through an area which looked similar to your photo's where some of the tree's weren't burned completly, but needle's are scorched. Not being a treeoligist, I wonder if the needle scorched tree's are now dead or if they come back?

Kinda cool to find out about the bridge!

Great ride report, I have been looking forward to getting my wheels pointed in that direction for a while. Just a bit of a long haul out of the Bay Area. But with the views and history you just presented I find a renewed desire to roll...

Hi TA. It is crazy how hardy some of the trees are. You think they are fried, then new pine cones appear at the top. We are going to have the mushroom hunters milling through the park next spring. People make big bucks picking prized morel mushrooms up here. I think they are gross, so they can pick away!

Thanks timmie415. Glad you checked it out. Awesome riding right now. The fall colors are off the hook.

Not sure how I missed this one, but great report. You guys pick some of the coolest places to camp! Love the morning shot looking out of the tent.

I love old broken stuff and that bridge is a great story, or a mystery with a lack of a story. Way to stick with the research and get an answer so all of us can benefit.

Very creative. I couldn't multi quote some of your other macro shots, but seems you have an eye for interesting perspectives. Keep it up.

You were probably out riding and taking awesome pictures! One day I am going to wake up to a bear or mountain lion outside the tent.

I swear some things are much easier to research.

Apparently I like getting all grubby. The macro just puts a different spin on nature. Textures are amazing.

Thanks for the update, seems all is not lost

You are welcome. A majority of the park remains the same.

Prove it! We need more photos
A group of aspens along HWY 44. The best place is up here near the abandoned Lucky S mine in Plumas county. Haven't made it up there yet.

Thanks BanhXeo. Your sweet new KTM will get you here just fine. I bet Redog1 already has the route all worked out.

Yah, it made me crazy for a bit. No doubt I will have another research project soon.

Always game for a new ride. Did a 210 mile loop last Saturday with Lucasleader, RR in progress. Disappointing RR. I'll continue to work on doing a better job. I AM myself a work in progress.
