I would recommend a new dirt rider with a heavy-ish bike have some form of knobby tire for this ride. You wouldn't wear flip-flops to go mountain climbing would ya. Be prepared for what could happen, rain/mud/snow/rocks. NVTS

Jusr reserved campground C22. I got room because my tent goes in the back of my truck. Now I just need a new rear tire.

Let us know how the k60s do. I am interested to hear how they handle versus actual knobbies. We are going to be at A15, 3 DRZs and a klx250. Maybe we will see you there.

GPS Files for Shenandoah 500

Hey, coming down from Canada to do the ride with a friend from Virginia. Most of the dualsport rides up here provide gpx files for a gps showing the route, food and fuel. will something like this be available at this event?

No gps tracks were available at last years event, and I don't think they will be available this year either. The organizers do give out roll chart directions for each day and mark out the course with streamers tied to trees, sign posts, etc and use wrong way signs and the like.

Pick up a roll chart holder and follow the crowd, will be pretty hard to get far off course that way. I have a gps unit and between the roll chart, streamers, following other bikes, and an occasional glance at the gps for an overhead general location view i had no troubles at all staying on course last time around.

Canada eh? Quite a long way to come!

Damnit

Just found out I am going to have to have surgery. Recovery time will be way past the Shenny. I am out this year. So it looks like there is an open slot for anyone that got wait listed and camp ground C22 should be available.

Damnit.

From a BRT Rider

Hey Guys,
I'll be running the Blue Ridge Trail (BRT) from around Buena Vista area on Saturday going up past the Natural Chimneys area towards Winchester. If you're not familiar, it basically a route taking gravel/dirt roads on the ridges along the Blue Ridge range. Not knowing the path the 500 takes, am I going to be swarmed by bikes from this event? Is the even mostly on the Blue Ridge range? I'll have a newer dirt rider with me so I just want to know what to expect.

Don

I have a copy of the BRT and looked at it. You are definitely going to run into some traffic on Sat. I can't say for sure, but the Shen500 usually takes Skidmore fork rd up to rt33 and north on sr85? or westside rd up to rough run and long run. We get started at 0900 from Mt. Solon, so if you get out before then you should be alright.

Thanks for the help...

Looks like we'll be in the thick of it then as I expect to be around Flag Pole Knob and Rt 33 around lunch. At least it looks like we'll be riding in the same direction.
