Metzeler Tourance EXP

How much miles can you get out the stock Metzeler Tourance EXP on the F650GS? Mostly or 95% paved road.

I already got 2000 miles on it and looking to do 8000-mile trip, wonder if I should bring a new rear or front along.

Thanks.

I've only used the "non" EXP version myself but reviews I have read of the EXP here on ADVRider make me think you would have to ride very conservatively to make it another 8K miles...

The EXP's don't last nearly as long as the regular Tourance. My cycle shop won't even sell them. I've changed out a dozen exp's with about 6-8 k miles on them. If there are cycle shops along the way then change yours enroute as needed. If not, put the regular tourance on before you leave and save or sell the exp's. One less thing to worry about.

I barely got 5,000 miles on the stock rear EXP on my F650GS twin, 95% pavement. Better take another tire along or plan to get one enroute. Best mileage for me on a dual sport type rear tire is from the Anakee2. YMMV

I'm on my 2nd pair of Tourance EXP on my F650GS.

The first set made 10,000 miles on the rear, but while not "bald" it was into the wear bars. The front was not quite close to the wear bars.

The EXP's are have softer rubber than the basic Tourance's. That is why I buy them. I like to get in the paved twisties pretty aggresively so i want the extra bit of traction.

How many mile you get on your will depend on you riding style (mostly) and to some extant on the road material you ride on.

I would say you can make the trip ..but the tire will be used up.

I would do it I'm to cheap to take off a tire at 2000 miles. Worst case you might have to buy a tire on the road some where....not a big deal!

Thank you guys!

I am thinking about swapping out the EXP for a set of new K60 before the trip and reuse the EXP later after worn out the K60 at home.

Laugh Ah yes... Hiedenau K60 Scout.

Like many of these other ADV riders I too have used to the lot. Metzler, Conti, Michelin, Mitus, etc. I love trying new tires and now have the Hiedenau K60 Scout (set) on the F800GS. A true 50/50 tire that looks the business and will get a hiding from me. I intend to review them here once I'm back from my next Tour d' Aotearoa.

I'll be keen to read what you think of them once you've burned through a set.

I almost hate to say this, but I put 15,000 on both front and rear Metzeler Tourance EXP before replacing them last week. Rear tire was bald . I had it replaced 1000 miles from home on my VStrom 650.
