My dad rode his Sportster, complete with 2 gal peanut tank, from Alaska to Florida. Auxiliary tanks are made for a reason. I would prefer a larger tank but even if this bike had a 2 gal tank it wouldn't be a deal breaker, just something to consider.

It depends on the bike. Large under-stressed engines tend to get very good mpg. My 1200cc Sportster regularly gets between 50 and 60 mpg when I am out touring.

a larger gas tank!
Here are 2 pics of a more traditional CB750 looking gas tank that's an aftermarket offering from a Japanese company. I just can't find it in my bookmarks right now. IIRC the tanks are US$1500 and have an additional gallon of capacity but it only adds 3/4 of a gallon more to 4.75 gal. I think I'd just use some MSR gas bottles when needed.

I don't think the size of the tank is worth arguing over. My point is, it shouldn't be a deal breaker. There are ways around it. If it is a deal breaker for you, then perhaps you may prefer something like the Triumph America, which is IMO a very attractive retro/cruiser with a 5 gallon tank. \
As far as a cafe version, or for that matter a more touring version, of the CB1100 goes, I think Honda would be wise to offer the bits necessary for conversion rather than to offer a separate model. Having a profitable accessories line would help to keep the bike in showrooms for years to come.

Never having had a "massive gas tank" and having lived out west most of my adult life (and yes having gone into the wild and dusty places) I developed this great work around called "the red MSR bottle" 4= 1 gallon cost about 50 bucks. I just bought a camp stove that used unleaded gas as well and the fuel was good for either.
As to a "cafe model" seem that kinda defeats the idea of a cafe... part of the fun of cafe-ing a bike is finding the right parts and doing the work. As long as Honda is using standard fitting sizes (which I suspect they are as they are still buying parts from sub contractors). then all the cafe parts are probably out there already. I do like the aftermarket tank... Dont know if I like 1500 worth but it sure looks purty. |

I sat on the CB 1100 at the Calgary Moto show yesterday, it is a very nice looking bike. The Honda rep. said 75 will be brought into the country and as of yesterday 74 have been pre sold.

That's just cruel. I don't know which is worse - Honda not selling them in your domestic market, or making the supply so tight that you can't get one anyway. They sure are playing it safe.

I dont mean massive in capacity I mean massive in styling size. Theres 12 inches of fuel tank ln each side of the cap.

Hi all,
Is anyone aware of a CB1100 owner's forum for this new model?

I've been looking for a while now, nothing popped up yet. I checked Australia, too, and found a used one, but no forums. I'm sure Japan has at least one, but I don't speak or read it, so didn't check there. I'll keep checking, but believe it's just too early, for a limited sale bike, to have a cost effective forum, yet. If I have missed any, please let me know, too. tomp dd50

I spoke with a sales friend with a large dealership in SE Texas, and was told they had one machine coming their way. He wasn't sure of more on later shipments. They move several dozen bikes a week, and are getting one CB? Insane marketing, I think...
