Pissed Zumo 550 screen issues 2 days into France trip - help!

Hey Guys,

So I've been planning this trip for about 3 years now, and have a whole bunch of stuff in Basecamp that I was going to make a reality these two weeks. All went well on the ride down through France, now that I'm within striking distance of my target the Zumo has packed up, symptoms being the usual digitiser troubles.

Question is, does anybody know of a Garmin dealer down here (Digne / Sisteron) that's likely to have a 660 in stock? I know I can send mine off to be reconditioned or even fix the digitiser myself, but all that takes time and I'm not going to get down here again for quite a while.

Cheers!

Try cleaning the corners well ....it may help and get you going for another week or so.

Yeah, tried that after reading various posts here. Also had a go at sliding a corner of thin card all the way around the outside of the screen in case some piece of crud had wedged in there, but nada. I couldn't believe the symptoms came on just like that without any warning - there I was in the town centre cursing my slackness with waypoints, when suddenly the screen came over all random and started flashing at me.

Anyway, have just ordered a replacement to be delivered to my next port of call, so fingers crossed I'll be sorted by this time tomorrow.

A couple of years ago in Alaska in similar circumstances I was able to get along by using a handy very wet soft rag which I used for a clean sweep/clean after every lockup. It helped till I got the refurb unit.

As the unit was so sensitive/flakey I employed simple point and shoot navigation (punch in favorite and go) as "touching" the Zumo to do too many steps was asking for trouble.

Michelin maps. I've used them to get around France. They work well.
