Had a great ride
and a great meal with ban and BigDog. Ban even showed BigDog something he ain't never seen before. And I went through more creek crossings than I needed to on the Versys.

Yes me ban and Sieg had a great ride today-----ban had a gps track that wasn't proven and we followed it and it was great with just a place or 2 we had to re-route because of a dead end road or private property. And they took me to a place I've never been to---and didn't know existed. It's called "Castor River Shut Ins". It's a beatutiful place that requires a bit of a hike. I had been down the road it's on as very near there I had dropped a waypoint called "Dead End" but never took the hike to see what the shut ins were. Here's a pick of them I grabbed of the net---as I left my camera at home. It's not visited very often---and is really cool. And here is the picture Bruce just sent me he took with his cell phone----really neat place huh ???? That's me and Sieg. ![]() The Shut-Ins are here---theres a parking lot----then you have to hike about 1/4 mile back to them. N37° 34.220' W90° 09.416' We then went to my favorite place to eat in Missouri----the "Hideaway" ---middle of nowhere. Population zero. We were so full we couldn't hardly zip our jackets up. We then were taking what back roads we could find and were going to Tower Rock on the Missouri side as the Mississippi river is as about as low as it's ever been -----and Sieg said in the very near future it will be at record low levels and we have a plan we can't tell about what we are going to do at Tower Rock ![]() But on the way------about 3 hours before dark a big fog rolled in and none of us wanted to ride in the fog at night and headed slowly back into Illinois. And ----crap-------the fog lifted---we could have gone and been just fine. Great day of riding-------no one was out since it was so cool. Bruce was on his DR650----I was on my 950KTM----Sieg was on his Versys------and I got to ride Siegs Versys quite a bit--------really nice motor------all the power anybody needs and oh so smooth----now I know why Bash3r likes his so well. It doesn't like the deep gravel or sand as much as a bike with a 21" front wheel-----still a really fun bike.

tower rock side
Last Monday me and my dogs hiked two miles
south out of tower rock. Totally awesome gravel bar to what is usually an island. Had to walk thru. Six inches off water for aboutsixfeet. Other than that it was dry. There is a very narrow chute the barges are hammering thru next to ill. I xfound four huge bouy anchor on the beach. Unreal. What is siegs plan. |

Tower Rock!
I read somewhere that the Corps is going to start blasting rock around Tower Rock to clear out a channel. Could be the end...they've done it before!

I heard they won't be ready to blast for several months.
I’m going to ride there again tomorrow. Then eat at The Bayou Bar and Grill. Ate at the Hideout today, BigDog brags it up so much, one of my buddies wanted to check it out.

Chime in
I suggested the ride to my good buddy Roscoe, but did NOT state that I would put the loop together. It might be better if I do though as he usually tends to head SOUTH when we plan to go North.
Loop; down past lil grand canyon, maybe towards the boars nest in A-J area for a sammich? Leave Pville McD's 930? That a good time to get to Pville from MtV. |
