Map tracking for the ones at home.

Not sure the best place to post this, but here looks like a good place.

I'm guessing this has been chatted about a bit, if so point me in the right direction of posts.

What do you use to allow those at home to follow along on your trips? Cell phone, Spot?

I'm looking for the easiest device, where I don't have to do much, and my young boys can jump on the computer to see where I've been and where I am. If I can interact with a fuel stop symbol, or eating symbol, etc... , that would be nice. Or perhaps send pictures and they are placemarked where I send them from.

Any suggestions for devices, apps, etc...

you might get more info in the Spot area.
There's an app called InstaMapper that I have on my iphone. It can do what you want but on the iphone it won't run in the background.
From their FAQs:

Is my phone being tracked all the time?
Your phone sends tracking data only when our application is running. On the iPhone, the software must stay in the foreground. Other phones allow the software to run in the background.

I use a Spot 2 and it's worked well and gives me a little peace of mind since I like to ride solo.
I send "Ok, just stopping" messages periodically and if I'm off the beaten path I turn on the tracking function.
Although i need to see if I can get the tracking info passed on to email addresses instead of having to go to the website to see it.

I think Spot is the way to go for what you're wanting. It's a couple hundred bucks a year for the service but if I really needed help that seems very reasonable.

you can use something like Google Latitude (app on your phone), but your friends can log in and see where you are. Find my friends is another iPhone app that will do similar. If you do the Google Latitude thing you can use your identifier to set up a SpotWalla account. http://spotwalla.com/index.php
