TURKEY TROT IV - Nov 2-3-4

The fourth annual Turkey Trot across Eglin will be held November 2, 3 & 4, 2012 at Spec Pond just South of I 10 on HW285 near Mossy Head Florida. The Trot runs across Eglin AFB land and requires an individual permit from Eglin AFB ($12.00 good for a year). Motorcycles must be street legal. Tag and working lights are required.

This is not an event, but a gathering. There are no fees or donations required.

There is plenty of room for large motorhomes and RVs - but it is primitive camping only. No nothing. There are tables and fire rings. There is an area for RVs with generators and a camping only area for tent campers who prefer the quiet.

GPX tracks will be provided in advance for those who wish to download them. There will be only one guided ride on Saturday. All other rides will be by agreement of those present. There are three different loops that can be ridden separately or in a string.

Beside the dirt loops we also will have several Beast Loops for those who have only a street bike and still would like to join in the Trot activities. Lots of very nice twisties. Ineptizoid and I made tracks for 104 mile loop which included several lakes, a tour through Defuniak Springs, a trip to Red Bay Grocery with down home cookin, then down along the coast and past Nicks Seafood thru Niceville and back up to Spec Pond. About a 3 hour tour if you stop and eat.

The Trot started in 2009 with 16 riders, the 2010 Trot saw 40 rides go for an epic ride across Eglin and back, 2011 was a three day camping affair with 47 + riders.
Be there when we post the NEW TROT TURKEY at the HAT TREE

Great time to meet fellow riders and tell lies, I mean stories around the camp...

With all the rain we've had this year I don't think we will have a burn ban like last year either...
Looking forward to it!

For all those not wanting to play in Eglin's sand, Vic's Beast route is a nice twisty 100-mile backroad tour of the area. If ya want more, it would be easy to incorporate a trip up to Paxton (highest point in FL at 345') or a trip over to Vernon (which inspired a documentary), and make it a 200+ mile day. Vic's Beast Route runs over to Red Bay where you can get some grub that's fit to eat at Red Bay Grocery

Vic's route also runs past Nick's Seafood outside Freeport, where I recommend anything except the tilefish. There are plenty of places along the way to stop, have a smoke not me I quit, and enjoy the scenery

Hell I might just run the Beast Route myself, I enjoyed it so much the first time I wanna do it again! Vic, thanks for leading me around on this "3 Hour Tour," it'll open up a whole nother world of riding for Trot IV attendees
