I found some time to walk around the lake:

En route to the next lake, which was slightly smaller:

This lake was almost not visible from the main road. I donít even remember if I was eating and saw the lake in the distance or saw the lake and decided to get food there:

Getting high up in the mountains to get some fresh air before going back down:

Right before the exit from the park, I walked around another lake, Mono Lake.

In my opinion, donít waste money on Zumo. They do nothing better than the nuvi (just waterproofed). I use a sandwich bag in case of rain. One time I didn't use any protections while riding in a really heavy rain. It was just fine behind the windshield.
I have 2 years old Garmin 1490, 5" screen. Before I used MapSource to create custom routes and now I use tyre.com which is free. The latter is highly recommended.
Another factor that impresses me is the type of bike you had it mounted on. The Vstrom is a great bike but it does have some vibration. Also considering you rode through some rough areas and roads, it wasn't destroyed by weather or vibration. I have a Garmin 255W that I've used in my car for a couple years but I've hesitated to mount it on my BMW (2010) RT. Fact is, it's so inexpensive, if I destroy it I can replace it.

That is my point: it's better to have 4 or 5 nuvis than one zumo for the same price. btw, this is my second cross-country plus countless local rides with the same garmin. I rode over 50,000 miles with this GPS, still works great.

The weather was perfect. Warm but not too hot, overcast but not raining. Low hanging puffy clouds added beauty to the scenery, photographers dream:

What you can see here only happens for a very short time during the season. The black dots on the water are flies that where bubbling on the water like foam. Seagulls had an all-you-can-eat buffet:

Here it can be seen better. In the foreground is a mass of flies:

The stench was unbearable, either from the flies or itís always there. When you get close to the water, the flies all lift off and fly off in different directions.

This is almost the end of my journey, Death Valley lies ahead.

So after getting stuck in Death Valley for almost 48 hours under the baking sun and getting successfully rescued by a ranger, I returned back to the spot I left from 2 days ago.

I slept in a hotel, regained my physical and mental strength, and decided to continue riding through the other planned stops in Death Valley.

Upon entering the valley on route 190, I was pulled towards a small resort called Panamint Springs like an oasis. It wasnít that I was hungry but I wanted to escape the heat for a bit and drink something cold. The sun burns, especially on a bike. Itís hard to breath and touching metal handles isnít pleasant. Itís like youíre sitting in a sauna but also running around a lot. And then I saw that oasis.

Anyway I went inside and sat down. I exchanged a few words with a cute girl and my intuition told me we have something in common. And it turned out I was right, she was also Russian.

Say hi, Anastasia:

Where thereís one cutie thereís always another, this is Victoria:

We sat around, made some small talk, I rested from the heat and I went on my way.

Nice riding and pics too.
I guess no one has told you that you can't ride that far on a 650--especially on wood beads.
They didn't tell me either'
Waiting for more reports.
