That's what I'm thinking, my dual-sporting future might be asymmetrically balanced… Thank you Motoranch!

VACommuter hacked a KLR and prefers it for dualsporting. It's a a whole new set of learning curves, but none of them include having to figure out how you are going to get a napping bike off your trapped, burning, busted leg.

That's easy! Post a "No Sleeping On The Job" sign on the car . Then no napping. Probably need to post it in Russian too.

Okay, I found this here but read it HERE!

If you're seriously considering a Ural, there has been a green 650cc that gets posted on the Bmore Craigslist every few weeks. The ad is not currently up, but I'm sure he will re-post it soon, it has been on and off for about 6 months. He is asking something like $3000 for the whole rig, which seems like a good deal.

No way. I want a Ural, something with 2WD. That'll be my dualsporting toy.

I dont remember if the green one that keeps popping up on Bmore craigslist is 1 wd or 2 wd...

Dont get hung up looking for a 2wd. My Ural is 1 wd, and my buddies is 2 wd. It seems like whenever I get stuck, he gets stuck too. I'm sure 2 wd would get you out of some situations... but I dont think it worth the $1000 price difference in used 1 wd vs 2 wd rigs.

I drive my 1 wd in the snow all the time, and it does great. Last year when the hurricane hit (or was it 2 years ago?), I was out dirving my Ural. There was so much debris and downed trees in the road my car couldnt get through, but the 1 wd Ural had no trouble hopping over 6'' diameter downed trees...

If you find a deal on a 2 wd... buy it. But if you cant find a deal, 1 wd will get you nearly as far.

Hackasaurus is not 2WD. Of course he is also a little insane.

Thing is, I really love my f650GS and it would have to go for me to move on to something else. Going to look into hacking it. Urals are listed as 40hp and I've found many complaints about starting on and getting up hills. Need to find out if the f's 10 more (50hp) could move it with enough gusto to make it worth it. More of an issue is are it's brakes strong enough to stop it.

This is what I tell myself before going to ANY motorcycle show: The bike you own is cheaper than anything you are about to look at!

I'm going to lurk "Hacks" and pursue some training before I spend anything but time on this endeavor.
