Hey... if you ride Smoke Hole, watch for a perfectly good right shoulder. I lost one a coupla years ago.

thanks wayne. Exactly what i'm looking for.

Gravel/hardpack isnt a huge issue as long as it's (very) tame. Was just throwing out some easy points to give y'all a feel of how long we want to spend on the bikes.

Listen to this man - he knows his shit. He also knows about riding - and eating - in that neck of the woods.

If your friends are riding nice vintage bikes they may not like getting gravel dings.

If your going to be in the Dolly Sods area, Seneca Rocks and Spruce Knob are worth checking out. There is a campground across the street from Seneca Rocks; Princess Snowbird campground , and a USFS campground just to the south; Seneca Shadows. Lots of camping in the Monongahela NF. One of our favorites is Laurel Fork, but it requires riding some gravel(easy coming from Glady, a little rougher coming from Spruce Knob) to get to it.

There are also a few commercial caves in that area that are pretty cool, Seneca Caverns and Smoke Hole Caverns.

All of WV in that general area is very scenic.

Why go to Charlottsville? All the good roads are further west.

Some of the best:
US- 50 west of Winchester.
US-250 west of Waynesboro.
US-33 west of Harrisonburg.
US-220 south of Cumberland all the way to I-64.
And many more.

Also dozens of secondary roads, some paved, some easy gravel. Smoke Hole Rd between US-220 & SR-28/55 is one. Reeds Creek Rd between US-33 & US-220 is another. Both paved.

Good eats can be had at the Alpine Lodge in Alpina, WV., The Gateway Family Restaurant in Riverton, WV., Foxes Pizza Den in Brandywine, WV., The Fireside Cafe in Franklin, WV., and The Kac-Ka-Pon Restaurant in Wardensville, WV.

I could keep you busy for a couple of weeks.

Falls under "we will see" which to me sounds like "gain some strength".

Today has been one hellava day (in a good way)...
Met my daughter for breakfast. Brooklyn Water Bagels. The place was okay but they do the most amazing thing. I ordered iced coffee, they told me where the cold coffee selections and fixings were and then gave me my cup. The cup was filled with ice, ice made from coffee. Brilliant! No dilution as the ice melts. I was so pleased.
Next on the day's agenda. P.T. Dats right, I started today. My doc gave me a (long) list of places to go. Before leaving the office I asked his nurse which office he had the least amount of complaints. She quickly gave me his top picks and that's who I called. Ask me if it's working next week, no opinions yet.
After that down to the shop.
When I got home I walked over to a weed that's been growing in the front of my house that has been bugging me for weeks but seems to be invisible to the guy I hired to do the yard work while I couldn't. I cut it down with a machete .
Sushi for dinner. Check of the forum, off to read and then bed.

Hellava Day!

If y'all get up that way, I highly recommend Smoke Hole Canyon. USFS Big Bend Campground is in this canyon, flush toilets, sinks, and showers.

I can give you routing suggestions if you want them.
